By Scott Gilfoid: 6’6” undefeated heavyweight prospect Hughie Fury (16-0, 8 KOs) stayed unbeaten with a 10 round points decision win over a smaller 5’11”, 41-year-old Argentinian journeyman George Arias (56-13, 42 KOs) on Saturday night at the Derby Arena, Derby, United Kingdom.

Fury used his height, jab, left hook and occasional right hands to pound his way to a wide decision. There wasn’t much in the way of combinations from Fury, as he looked like he was playing it safe to keep from getting hit by Arias’s counters. When Fury did open up with some combinations, he always did it when he felt it was safe to let his hands go without risk of getting nailed in return.

The referee scored the fight 100-90, which was a fair score for a dreadful mismatch. Yeah, Fury only 20-years-old, but he really needs to step it up because he’s fighting too many old guys and it’s not interesting. I don’t see what he can be getting from these fights.

Hughie’s lack of punching power was really frustrating to watch. I mean, you can tell that he’s just unable to muster up any kind of punching power even when he loads up on his shots. Part of the problem is Hughie is frequently fighting at the range for him to get maximum power. He was stifling his power tonight by standing too close to Arias when he’d throw a shot. If Hughie has the sense to get at the proper distance when throwing a punch, he might have a little more power. I still don’t think he’d have been able to hurt Arias, but at least he would have gotten his attention every once in a while. But like Tyson Fury, Hughie stands too close to his shorter opponents when throwing his shots, and this robs him of what little punching power he has.

There was talk of Fury possibly fighting on the undercard of the October 24th fight between Tyson Fury and IBF/IBO/WBA/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko at the ESPRIT Arena in Dusseldorf, Germany. However, I doubt that Hughie will be on the card. I don’t see why he wouldn’t be on the card because I think the undercard for that fight is going to need some interesting fighters so that the fans have something to look at other than just the main event, which could turn out to be a mismatch if Wladimir connects with anything big.

Billy joe trash talked the Eubanks because of they way they behaved...he gave as good as he got...he's not in the business of talking trash about his opponents...neither is Andy Lee...more to do with sportsmanship than how they are bred...and it proves you dont need to trash talk to sell a 'good' fight
