Blackdog92 2,047
How do lads. So the missus whants to get herself a whippet she has had her heart set on one for a while now. Im not looking for one right now im just after a bit of info on them and what to look for and pros and cons for the breed. It will be primaraly a pet but i will no doubt end up bringing it along with my pack when mooching and she does enjoy lamping so it will do a bit of that so i would look to get one from working stock instead of a show type. We have never had anything to do with whippets or know anybody with one so any knowladge will be greatlly appreciated on this side. Ive heard all sorts about these certain lines of whippets for instace "sooty sam" are these old lines that have probaly died out and are just used like the nuttal and gould names as a sales pitch or are they still going? Ps im so glad she whants something that can potentially work instead of what i feard the most a chiuaha or a jack shita pu or something "designer" lol Look forward to the replies cheers. bobza 910
cheers lads ,ive put a lot of time and effort to keep the line as strong as possible ,the mam of mine was bought off mike brown then was took back and lined to soulboy ,when I phoned mike to line my bitch he had fell poorly and was unable to carry on with this line so told me to travel to Manchester to use toms dodger, grandson of sooty ,my bitch had 4 blue 2 black ,ive kept the black bitch and if I had the spare time to put into the black dog pup he would be staying with me ,these are the type of dog that will stand up to many years in the fields ,you can see the bone on that bitch pup think shes 4 or 5 weeks in that pic, there feet are like bricks so strong ,the black dog has 7 oz on the rest hes like a bear ,the blues I could of sold 100 my phone hasn't stopped ,shame people didn't even ask about the lines they fell in love with them blue eyes and they were sold before they even got into my yard ,some how I feel like ive failed the pups by letting this line go to pet homes but they are good pet homes and will be looked after ,so I find it my duty to make sure this black pup goes to a good working home so this strong line will be here for many a year to come, its like buying boots you get what you pay for, heard someone saying theres some cheap whippets on this pet site so I clicked on to see the state of them they were flat footed week boned ugle little things with sore feet were they have been left in damp sheds going for top money so 450 isn't so bad for a well built dog ,I forest of dean I no what you mean its a mission keep washing the dog in puddles were when you have a black you carnt realy see the blood atb bobza Quote Link to post

alex1987 164
I wouldn't get too caught up in the whole SS thing. A lot (not all) of the SS stuff tend to be on the bigger heavier side. Personally If I wanted something on the bigger and heavier side I would (and did) get a lurcher. I like my whippets to look and therefore run like a whippet should. There are plenty of good whippets out there who are being worked hard. My advise would be to take your time, pick a pup from working parents and look at feet, temperament, teeth, coat etc before colour. Good luck in finding a pup you will have fun with a whippet that's a given. 1 Quote Link to post
