Blackbriar 8,569
If any of the political or financial institutions pull the plug, they risk de-railing the whole gravy train.......none of them will want to be the one responsible for that ! A deal will be cobbled together so that both sides can claim victory - look for the lowest common denominator. They're politicians - its all a game to them, just numbers on a sheet of paper. They're not the ones only allowed to withdraw 40 quid a day from the bank, or had their kids school closed, or unable to access healthcare and they're certainly not the ones who won't get paid next month ! Told you ! Now the Greek people will have to suffer austerity measures harsher than those they rejected last week ! So much for standing up to Eurozone dictatorship. Forced sale of €50 billion worth of state assets, €300 million off the defence budget (on the front line of the 'migrant' crisis ?), draconian pension cuts and VAT rising as high as 30%..........and this just for starters ! No wonder Merkel and Hollande look pleased.........
truescot 234
You would think Germany could relate to imposing impossible sanctions on a nation. I agree with what's being said it is a pretty harsh package. But certain European nations have always been vindictive towards thier neighbours. That's why it will never work! truescot 234
Give it a year, then there will be a total collapse of Greece. Riots ,looting and a possible coup. Regardless innocent Greeks will die and suffer. Then you will see the EU blame everyone but this glorious union! A bit blood on thier hands never bothered them before, why should it now. A f***ing blind man can see we should be running away from this inevitable disaster that is the UN. Even if we do get out if it,I very much doubt we will get away unscathed when it eventually does implode!
shepp 2,285
It looks like Greece will do anything not to go back to the drachma. Germany wanted it's own government to take over the 50 billion worth of Greek assets WTF! By one means or another Germany will run Eirope.
Malt 379
It'll have to get through the Greek parliament first, lets hope they tell the PM to feck off when he gets back..
day worker 296
I was about to point that out to malt! I personally don't think they'll go for it.they'll essentially be giving away their country which knowing Greeks like I do they won't stand for.

I hope you're right NW, I really do, but what other choice have they got ? Importers can't pay for goods, exporters can't secure orders, the economy is on it's ar5e and the banks have no cash ! Access to education, healthcare and other public services is pretty much zero - I don't think it's too much to say that their whole society is teetering on the brink of collapse.......what else can they do, but accept the poison chalice of ECB, especially now that the very people who encouraged them to rebel have sold them down the river ?

truescot 234
If the old Soviet Union could have seen this day. They would have torn the wall down decades ago lol Let Europe destroy itself! Make no mistake the hawks will be watching this very closely, and when it starts to crumble they will circle. Only this time they won't be flying star spangled banners!
