truescot 234
He can say whatever he likes . It's not up to him. He will have his hands full trying to convince his own party, never mind joe public. Also the scenes in Calais and the French attitude ,well that's certainly not going un noticed. I think we can safely assume we will be out of it.

Born Hunter 17,751
I think how Greece fairs on it's own two feet will influence a lot of British voters in a referendum and for that matter a lot of other EU electorates views on membership. It's gonna be in the EUs favour to see Greece sink into the Med in front of the world.

WILF 46,524
To talk about Greeces debt is nonsense, the EU couldn't give two shits about the debt......it's only your money so it don't matter, they can help themselves to plenty more of that while your alive and just after you die. We can wipe off the debt of Africa with one word from a faded 80s pop star and the president of the US so a fee hundred billion here or there don't mean Jack shit Let's concentrate on what this is about, it's political.....it's about power and control........let's not kid on that the Euro was ever about anything else. Greece has called their bluff and now the EU will have to show their true colours or the dream of a one Europe government falls apart.

oneredtrim 148
The first thing you need to know is just how a free market works when making a loan, the risks of it not being paid back is weighed up, the riskier the deal the higher the "Upfront charges" and interest rate charged, anyone who has dealings with the likes of Ocean finance or payday loan companies will understand this.Debt is not a "Guarantee of future payment in full", rather it is a risk that creditors take to make a premium in the form of high interest. The Greek Debt was initially taken out with PRIVATE investment bank Goldman-Sachs, remember that name because it was the same company that rejigged the Greek books to hide the true extent of Greek debt to get into the Euro.So why would a private company make huge loans to a client it had just helped hide the truth of its debts ?, because when the shit hit the fan they would lose big time despite the massive upfront fee`s and commissions they made setting the deals up.But then a strange thing happened, the IMF and ECB transferred the debt to EU institutions, at the insistence of the then president of the ECB Jean-Claude Trichet ( Google this fella for some interesting connections).Shifting a PRIVATE company's liability's on to the public purse, including ours at least indirectly, can not be explained for any logical reason, Except that some made a great deal of money while Joe public gets to pick up the bill. This is just one example of how rotten and corrupt to the core the EU has become, good luck to the Greeks for telling them to get stuffed
Blackbriar 8,569
If any of the political or financial institutions pull the plug, they risk de-railing the whole gravy train.......none of them will want to be the one responsible for that ! A deal will be cobbled together so that both sides can claim victory - look for the lowest common denominator. They're politicians - its all a game to them, just numbers on a sheet of paper. They're not the ones only allowed to withdraw 40 quid a day from the bank, or had their kids school closed, or unable to access healthcare and they're certainly not the ones who won't get paid next month ! Fire up the printing presses and inflate the debt away paying it back with monopoly money. Drachma looses value and millions of Germans, Frogs and Brits descend upon Greece for cheap holidays, tourism booms and the economy sort of rights its self over time. Job jobbed, sort of. Well a lot better than 40 years of 'austerity'
green lurchers 16,530
probably invade or bomb them into submission I doubt it but they will empty all the scum from their country and point it in this direction
Truther 1,579
Greece got a 240 billion "bailout" from the scum.............but % of it went on debt payments......straight back to the scum that lent them the 240 bailout????? 10% went on public services, and the other 10% probably went in the pockets of their last EU puppet government politicians. Dictatorship by finance.......simple as that..............well done the Greek people
