Dogs/pets In Hot Cars

Recommended Posts

I was at the cashpoint on Wednesday with the dogs in the back of the truck and woman came up to me and said ... Do you realise all your windows are done up and your dogs are on your back seat and to make it worse your engine is running ... Very poiltely I replied that I knew all that and that the dogs were just fine ... I could see she was just about to get excited and go nuts on me so opened the door and invited her to put her hand in side ... As she did I remarked that air con is a marvelouse invention ... For one second I thought she was going to tell me they are to cold lol .........

Context is everything,if you're a normal sane person and think a dog is gonna fry in the car, leave it a while,no sign of the owner, then do what you need to do.

you might end up in court, but i can't see a magistrate taking it any further.

Difficult one.

I have had a similar situation to Socks although I wasn't in the vehicle I was nearby.

I had parked up on an admittedly sunny but not too hot day under a big Ash tree, at about 07:30AM because I wanted to get my cutting done before it got too hot. The place was nice and shadey but a small walk from where I was working.

I was nearby cutting with a chainsaw, maybe an hours job.

My van is adapted so the dogs have a wire cage, I can roll the windows down fully and the dogs can't get out and people can't get in. The floor of the dog box is sealed so they had a full bowl of water with them.

On returning to the van there was a very distressed lady with three toy poodles huffing and puffing and looking in my van, walking back and forth etc etc.

She said "is this your van and are those your dogs?" I said yes what's the problem. She then launched into me about how irresponsible I was and how she had phoned the RSPCA and they were going to come and break into my van and take my dogs off me blah blah blah.

My dogs were curled up, next to their still full waterbowl not even panting.

I said to her that I have owned dogs all my life, I live and work with them and I knew what I was doing, they were in the shade and had water etc etc and I was going home now anyway.

She went f***ing spare telling me that she bred poodles and she knew all about dogs and how it was lucky she came along because the dogs could have died, she said she wouldn't let me leave until the RSPCA turned up.

At that I said that unless she was going to physically restrain me she could f**k off. She took my licence plate number and I wished her good luck with the RSPCA.

Never heard another thing about it. I fully expected a visit from the RSPCA and the rozzers but nothing.

Thing is my dogs were fine. And would have been all day long I am sure, if I had been a bit later would I have come back to a van with no dogs in after some f***ing numpty had broken in to "save them?"

On the other hand there should definitely be some level of common sense applied. I like to think that if the RSPCA turned up they would have seen that my dogs were comfortable and well cared for. But I have heard some horror stories regarding the RSPCA.

Sure remember reading someone on here potted a window to save a dog in a car park and woman tried getting him done.

That was socks. He said it was because the dog was overheating, but I think he wanted the handbag that was on the back seat
