bowburnbandit 20
OK guys and girls, it's going to be a scorcher tomorrow so I was planning on freezing some bottles of water to put in the nest box with the kits. It's a big nest box so won't get in the way, I was just thinking it will keep the nest from getting to hot as they seemed to struggle today. I doused them with water every 45 mins or so today as they were getting too hot. I am out all day tomorrow so what do you think? Anyone any better ideas? Cheers Joel Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
If you're going to be using frozen water bottle in the nest put a thin cloth around it mate just in case one decides to snuggle up to it Quote Link to post
pie-eater 377
I hung up a small frozen coke bottle In a sock with my kits, also the sleeping compartment is split in 2 at the moment so I put a couple of frozen big coke bottles other side of the partition. I also lay some baton on the top of the hutch and cover with ply, the ply gets hot in the sun but the top of the hutch stays cool because of the air gap. Hadnt read the thread beat me to it katchum. bowburnbandit 20
Cheers for the reply guys, yeah I was planning on putting the frozen bottles in a couple of pillow cases or tea towels, I don't want the kits or mum to get freeze burn. I have a really big reflective space blanket, I wondered if I tied it up in front of the hutch a foot or so away if it would provide a little relief by reflecting the sun away but at the same time to would hate it to work the other way. Also thought of using a white cotton bed sheet to cover the whole hutch and reflect the sun away from the dark wood. Edited June 30, 2015 by bowburnbandit Quote Link to post

pie-eater 377
Obviously a big bowl of water helps, careful if you've got kits coming out of the nest though. Quote Link to post

bowburnbandit 20
Well in the end o used frozen bottles of water wrapped in a tea towel and pit bricks on the hutch top and covered with ply. Seemed to do the trick. I was gunna put a tray of water in hutch but was unsure as the kits haven got there eyes open properly. Quote Link to post
random 659
Another one for putting a piece of wood over the top with an air gap and frozen bottles in the hutch, seems to keep it cool enough... Quote Link to post
