having read a thread the other day about tumblers dieing out over 150 years ago and this burrell man being a liar baffled me somewot ,having visiting a good friend of mine just today who has one ov these tumbler/smithfield dogs that is very much alive and kicking and looking very tidy indeed at only 5 months . :hmm:

I am the bloke who chink is refering to, I have one of Jeff Burrells Lurchers. she is about 5 months old and I am very keen to hear from people who have worked them. I live in the real world so I dont expect to read about mystic dogs taken mystic game, I'm just a humble rabbiter catching the humble rabbit, any other game is a bonus!! The said pup is doing fine. I would just like to read about other peoples experiences with them!!

Regards Warren

Alright warren i no people who got these breeds and their boss.. i regular go out with a lad with one and doing evefrything and its a bitch.. i think he said he got it from a lad in yorkshire. been out with this dog for last 12 months cant find any faults as yet. good all round dog mate. take no notice of the "bad mouthers"..... Good luck with your pup..

ps ive never heard of hip thing with these dogs, and this one of my mate is showing no signs either. :victory:

All I know about this "strain" is that they're a mish mash of dogs, and GB is trying to recreate what looks like the imfamous smithfield lurcher. If in a litter the a dog doesn't turn out looking like what a tumbler should be it isn't classed as a tumbler yet has the same genes (doesn't line up in my lines of thought). lurcher x lurcher cross as far as I'm concerned that has a fair bit of publicity so higher pricers are charged for the pups. You pay your money and take your pick

ok so the smithfield collie blood was pre war and jeff has been adding to the strain ever since to keep the blood lines going if im not mistaken, the tumbler type of lurcher that come from these litters are a type with its own style as has been said.some one correct me if im wrong, but added to these lines has been deerhound greyhound, whippet, saluki, cumberlnd spaniel, huski different types of collie ie not bearded or border but to name a few,if you want one of thes pups they come at around 250-300 quid wich to a working man seems a little steep considering you would not know how it would throw.
