Mr Tommy O'Reilly. What a legend.

One of life's true characters and he will be fondly remembered by those who were lucky to have met him. The likes of Tommy are a rarity in today's world and indeed his own generation. What you saw is exactly what you got with Tommy. Straight as a dye! The white dog men of Cork and further afield owe a debt of gratitude to Tommy for cementing the foundation stock that make up many kennels of today that can be traced right back to the 60's. When growing up in Cork in hunting Tommy's name was synonymous with Terriers. I remember being amazed that a couple of the terriers he bred had acquired the status of having "the" before their names, "the" General and "the" Blindman. The only other dog I knew of such fame and not bred by Tommy was "the" Armoured Car. These dogs amongst others he bred and worked were infamous around Cork and Tommy started many off with decent white dogs. He lived through a golden era of dogs, digging, hunting and the trials. He hunted with the best of them and was right at home amongst them.

 

He was out following the hounds on the river only a few days ago and it was great to see him out right to the end amongst his own. He soul will live on through his children and grandchildren, the apple doesn't fall too far from the tree "as they say". His memory will live on through the many Terriermen that continue what they have inherited from Tommy's grafting since the 60's. For we are only polishing what we have been gifted to pass on to the next generation.

Tommy is gone to the hunting ground above, but will never be forgotten.
