Anthony Simmons 22
A lot of people don't understand how protective and loyal staffs are, I have 1 here 7 years old, brilliant with the kids my lurcher and jrt but put another dog in the mix that he sees as a threat and it's game over,I had stop my lady walking him aswell if there was a group of lads heading his way he'd go straight through the middle of them like a tank he wouldn't bite just menace them,I wouldn't get rid of the dog for the reasons your stating as its just doing its job, sounds like next doors mutt had it coming and your staff took full advantage, accidents happen fella. also you have to take into account how warm it's been and staffs are well known for losing it in hot weather Atb ant 2 Quote Link to post

Gaz_1989 9,539
Its a civil matter and police cant do anything.they will if you chin him though haha yeh they can, the law changed now . with the new law that came out last year, if a dog attacks another person on there own ground, you the owner will get done for out of control dog jail up to 6 years. if it attacks another dog 16 months jail plus £800 quid fine . that's why I said on the guard dog post before, theys no real point of a having a big breed guard dog, or any type dog today more so if its loose on your ground , you be in the shit today . you might have got away with it, you been lucky I have to be careful with my big dog, he wouldn't hurt anybody he soft, but he could knock them down in his play, and a big dog will aways look bad in joe public eyes . hope it work out for you+dog If I've read it right, his dog didn't attack anyone. His dog was on his property minding his own business when the other dog came along and attacked HIS dog? And then came off second.Surely this would be viewed differently to his dog going off and attacking another dog? The way I read it, the neighbours dog was going past his property and his dog latched onto his neighbours dog.No mention of his neighbours dog attacking his dog? according to the new law, it don't matter (where ) it is , on your property , or in a field , if a dog bites another person or dog etc . you the owner will get done for having a vicious dog out of control, it doesn't matter what the circumstances are . I watched it on the box , people ( farmers, publicans, etc) were moaning because they want dogs to guard there property, and more so at night loose . so as said any dog today bites a person or another dog , doesn't mater where the dog is your fecked you get done, that's why I said there no point in have a guard type dog on your property or any type dog loose today, you may as well get a alarm/ctv camera . But his dog got bit too? So both owners will get prosecuted because their dogs had a fight? This new law sounds like it's got as many loop holes as the hunting ban. Lol 3 Quote Link to post
lurcherman 887 13,261
Mine got attacked in the fields by a staff/pit and nothing happened not one thing ? Quote Link to post
Gaz_1989 9,539
not because they had a fight, both owners can be prosecuted as none of there dogs were under control, and they should be, at all times according to new law Fair enough. What does this new law constitute "under control" to mean? I had some muppet at the local dog walking spot last week try to give me a £75 on the spot fine for having my dogs off a lead in a public place. But they WERE under control. They were walking to heel and not going to other dogs or jumping up people. Does it state what "under control" means? Obviously I told him to shove his fine up his arse and didn't give him any details. It all sounds like it's getting a bit silly. Quote Link to post
bird 9,973
that's why it says under control, so they can deem anything wrongish, not under control, any dog making a pest of itself thes days could fall foul, I take it as shitting, roaming, barking, fighting, chasing, and just generally being a dog lol what ever happens tho ill just be saying dog is under control, I told it to do what its doing lol just dont get caught an all be fine lol true, that's what your against today Quote Link to post

hubbs 178
You're always going to look wrong if you're dog attacks another , whether right or wrong I believe it should never happen , but it can its then how you deal with it , sometimes even with the village idiot you have to apologise instantly and make yourself look a tosser but can not always save issues , I had it the other year a king Charles next door right pain in the arse goadin the dogs kids ect I turned my back my bull x jumped a six foot fence ran it like a rabbit and bang with the neighbours in the garden withinin a second I was over the fence choking him off it . I put the dog in the kennel with a sore arse. I never got on with the guy or his wife, been but knee he liked a beer straight to the fridge grabbed my pack of four put a concerned face on knocked the door he answered about ready to plant me , I said here pal and how's the dog can I see it checked it over I said it looks fine but I will put my hand in my pocket if you want it vet checked , since then we have got along great , I seriously changed how I do things as I consider I was at fault 4 Quote Link to post
dytkos 17,819
Cost me £100 vets bill a few years back when next doors spaniel attacked my terrier and my lurcher paggered it! Could have argued the toss with him as he saw what happened but it was 2 onto 1 at the end of the day so I offered to pay and we get on fine still. Cheers, D. 1 Quote Link to post
Moorside 642
I wouldn't worry, honestly it seems like a massive thing but to be honest the old bill wont want to know if two dogs have a set to. There resources are stretched anyway this type of thing is bottom of there priority list. Ive had this year's ago from both sides my old Stafford loved fighting to be honest he was a liability.....he got leatherd when he was a pup by 3 other staffs from up my old street when being walked by my ex. She rang the police and they weren't arsed. When he was older he fired into a pointer when I had him on his lead in a country path the pointer was loose its owner went mad but in all honesty her dog was out of control so it her problem. beast 1,884
It hasn't been made clear if the dog left the garden, or the other dog came in. Either way, as somebody already said, the garden is obviously not secure!! The police won't be interested, but there is always a chance, however small, of civil action being takn by the owners. Small claims court or whatever. Be the bigger man, go round and have a grown up chat, ask what you and they can do to sort our the issue and stop any future problems. Take a responsible attitude and this will count in your favour. It will also count for everyone else whose staffs get accused of being aggressive. Quote Link to post
