Frontbum 76
Does or as anyone bird proofed there Fenn Squirrel traps?,i was thinking along the lines of a weighted swing door like on the poison hoppers, just interested in any ideas or views on it, cheers. Quote Link to post
shropshire mole 190
I use tunnel traps purchased from http://www.wma-shop.co.uk/ The opening is fairly small, and can always make them smaller with poles , bricks etc. Would not want a weighted door, as want the squirrel to readily enter. Even if a bird got in their weight would not be enough to set off trap. Equally do not have bird seed/corn right by the entrance as this will only encourage the birds Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
Set the pan heavy, then no small bird will be able to set it off. Quote Link to post
Frontbum 76
Thanks for the replies, i agree on the heavy set to the plate, i once caught a black bird in a Fenn i think the constant hopping in and out must have worked the plate down to fire these accidents very rarely happen as we no. Without going into to much detail i need to make a bird proof trap so im going to try a heavy mesh swing gate/door see how that works, Cheers. Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,626
Could you install something similar to pigeon bob wires that small birds wouldn't be able to push through but a squirrel could? 1 Quote Link to post
Frontbum 76
Job done little wire door so the sqizzz pushes up to open, then gravity with a little added weight to close. Its working and killing so im happy, just a little cooperaration with the client and understand there worries and work with them goes a long way Quote Link to post

The one 8,535
I bought one in mesh boxes from a site and there a two inch mesh missing for the squirrels to enter just the right size for a fen to sit in and since then I've had no problems Quote Link to post
Eds Pestcontrol 66
I like the boxes cos no one else sees the dead squirrel Quote Link to post
neil cooney 10,416
With those boxes because the squirrel has to go through two holes do you have to use a bait that gives of a scent or does curiosity and a normal bait do the trick ? Quote Link to post

I site my fenns in boxes on grain, but also smear some peanut butter in with the grain. 1 Quote Link to post
