Bird Proof Trap

Recommended Posts

I use tunnel traps purchased from http://www.wma-shop.co.uk/

The opening is fairly small, and can always make them smaller with poles , bricks etc. Would not want a weighted door, as want the squirrel to readily enter. Even if a bird got in their weight would not be enough to set off trap.

Equally do not have bird seed/corn right by the entrance as this will only encourage the birds

Thanks for the replies, i agree on the heavy set to the plate, i once caught a black bird in a Fenn i think the constant hopping in and out must have worked the plate down to fire these accidents very rarely happen as we no.

Without going into to much detail i need to make a bird proof trap so im going to try a heavy mesh swing gate/door see how that works, Cheers.

I bought one in mesh boxes from a site and there a two inch mesh missing for the squirrels to enter just the right size for a fen to sit in and since then I've had no problems

With those boxes because the squirrel has to go through two holes do you have to use a bait that gives of a scent or does curiosity and a normal bait do the trick ?

I site my fenns in boxes on grain, but also smear some peanut butter in with the grain.
