Kenneling Dog And Bitch

Anyone kennel a bitch and dog together? I have a bitch now but am looking at getting a dog. I'm gonna have the bitch spayed soon but will the dog be pestering her still?

No, he won't. Dogs are different to human males. They are only stimulated to behave in a sexual manner if the bitch is in season. Many, many male dogs go a lifetime without ever having mated a bitch, and they are none the worse for it and don't feel frustration. Even male dogs that have mated bitches don't bother bitches which are not in season, probably even less than an unmated male, as they know that the female isn't receptive until she has reached a certain stage in her season. Humans, and I believe, some primates, are the only animals to indulge in sex for 'recreational' purposes as opposed to procreational.

I don't kennel my dogs but have dogs and bitches living together in the house and kept in the utility at night/ when at work. Never had any serious issues and have always found different sexes get on slightly better than same sex. I should say both the bitches I have are spayed, one dog is neutered and the other a youngster atb.

Not for the reasons you are thinking, him pestering her etc.

 

But just keep in the back of your mind that some dogs won't take to kenneling with others. I think you've got a good chance of success with a spayed bitch and entire dog but there's always that chance.

The bitch is nearly 5 and has been kennelled with other bitches fine. She's not a fighter and will even give up food to another dog to avoid conflict. So think I should be fine.
