Stu180101 0
My seven month old lucher bitch slit her pad yesterday . . . didn't notice until I got home as there was no howl/whine [hard as nails they are see ] I am guessing she did it whilst digging [as she is a booger for it] . . . She has slit the large pad on her front right paw and also slit about a centre metre or so along her paw behind the pad. There wasn't loads of blood or anything but it looks quite nasty. It's not real deep or anything [but, I would be feeling sorry for myself if it was my foot !!]. Bathed the paw in salt water and left her to it last night [licking it better ] Looked OK [ish] this morning - I took her out in the yard for her usual morning relief first thing today [she sleeps in the house] but, once she had done the biz she bolted off into the garden and started digging . . . obviously she's re-opened the wound I can and will prevent her from going in the garden for a while but, I have a few small queries [forgive my ignorance but, I am very new to all this]: - How long does it take for the pad to heal [should I be taking her to the vets] ? Since the clocks went back, I have been restricted to road walking her [during the week] with a little run around in the park along the way and off road up in the mountains on the weekends. Should, I stop road walking for now and just let her have a run on the park ? Should I bath it in salt water [or another recommended ointment?] daily? Any other advice appreciated? kreet 0
i would just bathe it in solt water dry it of and put some cream on it shouldnt take more than 2 weeks to heal over although i wouldnt let her run on hard ground or to go to daft for 3 used to have split pads all the time with greyhounds like bad splits that would heal in 4 weeks with a dog ointment cut/heal it was called but if its not deep or just a graze itl be quite well seeled over after a week or so mate nothing to worry about and i would deffo forget about the vet aslong as you keep an eye on it and clean if it get dirty but try not to have it to wet as itl just keep opening . Stu180101 0
Thanks Kreet, Marko and Samet Sam [aw that looks very similar to mine but, thankfully Sky's is not as deep] So . . . keep it clean and dry, rest her for a week and don't let her do her usual 'look how fast I can run' waddlit on hard ground for 3-4 weeks ?? druimmuir 1
The advice given so far is excellent, hope the foot heals soon, I use a cream called Derma gel with my dogs cuts and scratches, even when they have had open wounds the cream seems to make healing so much quicker, can be bought on here :- http://www.hyperdrug.co.uk/prodinfo.asp?number=DERMGEL100 Nicola
kreet 0
my grandad and his mate used to use cornurescine on the grehounds nails if they went sore when racing whitch was quite often due to the sand getting into them .
