stevo79 569
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackhead_disease I have made the mistake and kept turkey's and chickens on our farm. The link will explain it better than I can but basicly, we raised 100 turkey's for Xmas. We had to walk through our hens field to the turkey's and basically wiped out half. It was our fault just in experienced. Hope this heps you ?
comanche 3,082
Hi, a bit of advice wanted pls ? Any advise of experience of this most appreciated, Thanks, At a guess they'll probably end up being knocked about and pecked by the bigger poults or even the hen. Slipping them(or better still the eggs just before they are due to hatch) under a sitting hen would work . Its always best to rear chicks in groups of the same age to avoid bullying and hygene problems. And as stevo79 mentions there are risks in mixing poultry species. On a small scale brooding ducks and other species under hens goes on all the time but commercially it would be a time bomb. Edited June 21, 2015 by comanche

astrix 12
Thanks Comanche, the chicks/poults would kept separate. Just wondered if there was any advice or best practise of when n how to take eggs from the incubator and put them under the broody ? The broody n eggs/chicks would be kept away from everything else,
Chicken_man 1,651
Pop the eggs under at night. Atb
astrix 12
Cheers chicken man, how long before hatching date do u recomend ?
Chicken_man 1,651
I have done it couple days before, also when pipping and as day old, depending on broody type. Silkie x are just about bomb proof. All these things are a gamble, just keep your eye on them. Others may have different ideas. Best of luck I wouldn't be keen on mixing very young chicks with older one's though. I would only do this if broody was on dummy eggs before hand
stevo79 569
I think you have to make sure the chickens are wormed. But after my experience I wouldn't keep them together. They start showing signs of blackhead around 10 weeks, well mine did and believe me it doesn't take long before they died. Sorry to put a downer on it. Atb?
astrix 12
I ain't keeping owt else Wi the hatching turkeys other than the one broody hen that has hatched some turkey chick bout 5 week ago. I'm asking do ya think she would take to the new incubated turkey chicks or would she not be interested ( instead of under heat )
