corkboy 1
my bitch ate rat poison this morning that some dick put in a tub in a public area. I gave her washing up liquid as i was told by an retired vet a neighbours knew . I'll have to watch her for the day for anything else otherthan her vomiting up bubbles and the blue poison. has any one on here been in the same predicament. desertbred 5,490
Rat poison is usually an anti coagulant thins the blood get to a Vet if you have not already, trying to make them vomit is a waste of valuable time
mad4it 694
as said get to the vets now dont waste time as rat poison is a anti coagulant, the longer you leave it the harder the vets has to work to revervse the affects of the rat poison.

Hydropotesinermis 724
My Patterdale ate rat poison while in the care of a friend. They hadn't realised he had done it. A week later he suddenly went off his food, bleeding gums. I took him to my vet there and then and she diagnosed it instantly. Massive dose of vitamin K by injection and then a 21 day course of tablets. Almost instantly after the injection he began to come around and was back eating his food. A very close scare and an excellent and experienced vet. The thing is. Not all rat poisons are anti coagulants. They don't all produce symptoms straight away and some are much much stronger than others. Get your dog back to that vet or ideally a better one. It will be costly but if you cant get a sample of the poison, the information leaflet from the packet or at least a name your vet will need to do blood samples etc to find out what type of poisoning it is and then decide on a course of action. The good news is that it is most likely anti coagulant, vitamin E is the antidote and a full recovery is most likely the result if you get the correct treatment. P.s. I will never be leaving my dogs with that particular mate ever again.
MoChara 1,632
I'm sorry but if my vet told me that I'd of told him to shove his stethoscope where the sun don't shine. I'd of had that dog at a vets as soon as I noticed. As said above, you'll want to find out what kind of poison it was exactly to pass on to the vet.
