Bosun11 537
I imagine guard dog breeds are the same as most other breeds in that the percentage of people that actually NEED them as opposed to just want them is extremely low......how many times do you see a big foaming at the mouth dog being taken into a pokey little terraced house where the most valuable item in it is probably the dog !! Spot on +2 ive said many time go round most farms today , they got collies or jacks that will bite your leg, sly prats that they are lol but bloody painful , how many people have been bitten by a dog ,? by brother got bitten by our Dalmatian we had years go , got him on the hand . bloody hell did that hurt him he told me it was like somebody slamming a door on his hand, that was only poxy 50lb thing. ive said before one farm I used to go to had big black gsd thing on a chain, and this thing would rip you to pieces. he loosed it of at night it had couple people before this was in the 80s , police there the lot , be different ball game now with the law . it was one place that didn't get many poachers , you to busy looking over your should for that big black thing to be looking down the lamp some of these farm type Alsatians things not dogs to mess with , things were and are 1/2 bloody wild .! I'm a huge guardian breed enthusiast always owned some type of guard dog but I'll happily admit I don't NEED one, I just enjoy owning them. Over the years my dogs have stopped intruders a couple of times but did they do anything that couldn't of been achieved with other decent security measures? Probably not. I took an accidental bite from my big bullmastiff x pit (shown you pics of him before ) and my whole arm below the bite had no feeling for days after. This was a quick 1 second chomp that he released as soon as he realised it was me he had hold of, I hate to imagine the damage he could of done to someone he wanted to hurt

Some people just like certain breeds thats understandable im sure you are a good responsible owner with enthusiasm and knowledge for your chosen breed/s......but as we see in day to day life with the so called " image " breeds most people dont own them for the right reasons.....im not the stats man but it wouldnt surprise me if stats showed a very high % of guard dog owners would be just as " protected " with a good security system, myself included......hence theres only going to be one loser in many situations and thats the dogs themselves. "1/2 bloody wild"...your not wrong there...when i was a kid at the end of the 70's i had a paper round delivering to 2 villages a couple of farms, small holdings and general country mentals...a lot of folk had yard dogs...by far the most aggressive where the black Labs...can still remember the feeling of relief and terror...coming into the farm yard to see an empty chain...relief of not having to run the gauntlet to the farm house door avoiding a mental black Lab on a chain...but terror at the thought the evil b*****d was loose and could turn up any minute...my old fella in his wisdom took a pup off that same yard dog (X collie bitch) the bitch we had was wild to say the least...had to be put down after she bit one of my brothers...only been seriously bit by a dog myself once...Stafford bitch was coming into season...my old Stafford dog tried to get across her...she was having none of it...all kicked off...i split em up...but the bitch caught my thumb against the dogs neck...i can tell you your brothers not far wrong...feels like hitting your thumb with a hammer
