Duck Gone Broody

Recommended Posts

Yeah, one of the mighty magpies has only gone and went broody :D

Found her nest last week - piglets broke out and had ate her eggs and wrecked the nest she looked like she was dying poor thing!

Now 3 days past found she's made the nest bigger and better and has X amount of eggs under her.

Never had a broody duck so I'm chuffed and nervous lol

Good girl

Thanks CM - yes all the other mutters still doing great. Got more pigs shifted the other week so down to just a couple :)

Got new pig pen built and big ones in it, also got the feathered fiends moved to fresh ground

But this duck has me excited. But I'm wondering about what she should do, she still comes out freeranging from morning to lunch time then back in also leaves nest to eat drink and just nosey about.

I touched eggs this morning and they were roasting so I'm trying to let her do what she thinks best.

It's worked naturally for millions of years ... Let her get on with it .......

state the obvious mr socks :D

Oj - Nah that's the plan, just leaving her to it, I'll not be changing nothing. Never thought she would of been the broody of the bunch, pleasantly surprised with this one :)

As I found her.

Wish she'd of picked a cleaner area though! Nope she decided to go to the oldest part in front of the diesel tank :icon_eek:

Notice she's made it with straw, a little wood and some stuffing that she's pulled out of an old dog cushion bless her.

Little lady still sitting tight. She's not moved off the nest since yesterday morning, only to get food/water. I went in to leave water/food closer to her so she didn't have to go to the other side of pig house. She wasn't a happy bunny - hissing and fluffing up, so left her food and water and got out of there sharpish as far away from her and eggs as possible.

she's a moody broody of course!

Doing great :)

Sorry about the side wards pictures - no idea why that's happened lol. Nest is bigger again with feathers/stuffing. She's using everything around her including a coal bag to make nest higher lol

Ah dear... Duck up and over with the rest today to eat first time in a while. Fed them went back in to give them water and out runs old moody broody. She went away up to the water for a swim with the others so took the opportunity stuck gloves on and went out to candle a couple of the eggs that were in the nest, been worried one looked to have a weird shell and wasn't going to candle or go near at all but needed that one checked.

First one - blank

Second one - blank thought well this is crap. So done one more - blank. Damn it.

Just left the rest as I didn't want to be over at them too much. Not looking great this.
