jack44 187
Was sitting watching TV with the missis about an hour ago when she started shouting the dogs had something in the yard, I thought it was the neighbours cat so ran out shouting and the lurcher and hairy terrier bolted ha. But the small jack was barking like mad at the back fence along the hedge then I copped the pine marten crawling up the fence in bits. I did get the gun but couldn't find him after. What the he'll would bring him into a yard with 4 dogs. 1 Quote Link to post

fat man 4,741
Ye may be but when the dogs are locked up or they will only visit once, can't faddem why it would come over a fence into dogs tho There in pest numbers about my area at present, everytime i take the dogs for a walk i see one if not 2 in a small area. They are an out and out killer, and nothing is safe with them as they are brilliant climbers and the speed they move at in the tree's is unreal, imo they should be on the vermin list same as mink. neil cooney 10,416
The way the Pine Marten is being released willy nilly around the Irish countryside is proof that the Park and Wildlife haven't a clue. The reason he crossed a fence into your dogs is because they're not afraid of much. 1 Quote Link to post

fat man 4,741
they reckon they're the antidote to grey squirrel population apparently Correct they are able to catch and kill the grey squirrel but they will also kill every other small animal or game birds they come in contact with and wipe out a pen of fowl if they gain entry.A local man to me actually seen forestry reps releasing pine martin into a young forestry but yet at an nargc meeting when asked they denied this. 1 Quote Link to post

We have beech & pine martens round here & a healthy population of red squirrel's so could there be some truth in that? 1 Quote Link to post
