RussBoy 77
We live in a housing scheme and wondered what the laws were on keeping a few hens in back garden (obviously in coop and run)? Also would large fowl or bantams be best and what breeds/crosses mainly for eggs and the kids pets Oh and I know a cockerel is a no no haha
BGD 6,436
Should be fine, I know half the houses on estates near me have a few chooks milling about the yard. I'd check with whoever manages the estate first though (Local Authority or Housing Association?)
RussBoy 77
Ye will check with landlord, what bantams would be best for laying? They will be kept in coop and run so won't damage anything, neighbours should have no room to complain if there is no cockerel I would have thought?
Chicken_man 1,651
Hi mate, I used to have a few Rhode Island Red Bantys when I was younger, they layed ok. I've heard folk mention leghorn bantys. A fella on here keeps Minorca Bantys, and rates them, vfr400boy. Atb
forest of dean redneck 11,589
Search for quiet breeds,I had some brahma bantams that were quiet but didn't lay every day.and had some Peking x Japanese bantams that were quiet birds. Orpington bantams supposed to be quiet. I live in middle of housing estate and had large fowl hybrid hens and a trio of seramas here,I just let the seramas out after the school run, Though he would still crow before then as could hear the wild birds.
