Thanks ok then mate why a bxw. is it the small size you like or the rough coat, would you want it for rabbits, ferreting etc. mybe its me ,but idont see a point in croing the two together,a staight whippet is far more superior to any cross. they can do all and moe than a b/w could ever do. some will say that the cross will have more nose ? it aint true you may get a better coat, again aint true you may like the cross ,so get one no hard rules get what you like Quote Link to post

Greyduster 0
Hi Tawny, its a combination of a few of the things you mention. A couple of months ago i lost my JRT, had him 13 years and the house is empty without a dog. I always fancied a bedlington whippet but could only have one dog at any one time. i had a great time with the jack russel when he was younger with rats etc and through the bushes, got some permission for rabbits now and usually go out with my mate, him with the air rifle, i prefer to do the lamping. So with all this in mind i thought a bedlington x whippet would be ideal for me, ive been told im only allowed a small dog itl only be for rabbits and to be honest its just a dog i like the look of. Like i said though itl be my first dog of this type and im open to any advice Quote Link to post

cymruguy69 5
I fancied a beddy whippet before getting my bitch (collie grey x whippet), but as most of my hunting is around lamping then I wanted a dog with a bit more size as I find a taller dog see's down the lamp better. She has much more stamina than a straight whippet and her nose is amazing for a young unexperienced dog. If you want a lamping dog look out for a good line bred lurcher to lurcher pup that have parents proven to lamping. just my opinion. Also if the ban is overthrown that dog might be capable of taking foxes and more likely to take one than a beddy whippet as some do but most don't. Hope I helped a bit!! Quote Link to post

Spot on Johnny But you forgot, It won't have paper thin skin=True There's some very good working whippets about, but if they were good at everything, there would be no need to outcross to improve,Stamina,Nose,Durability (coat, skin, etc). I'm no expert, but the only thing i see a whippet having over a BeddyxWhippet,is out and out speed. Greyduster,if you want a rabbiting dog that will also mark, work cover (a good moocher) you won't go far wrong with a BeddyxWhippet. Mine,10 months old,and doin a grand job wth the ferts. JollyPoacher 3
Beedy x whippet. All the way. If you want a handy dog who fits under your desk. Try Terrier Maid on this site. Mines 10 Months now and is doing really well. Great natured and just that little bit steadier than the whippet x grey I had before her. She is up for everything but trying to keep her out of the long nights and bigger stuff until she is a bit older. Go for it - theyre great. JP Quote Link to post
