janine 53
Just out of interest when do people start handling the kits, both my Jills have had their kits now, last Sunday, I have only had a peek to see how many each has had. I've been reading to start handling them at four weeks is this about right. Plus my polecat has turned into a psycho, she's really had me twice now, got some lovely bite marks, first I went to pick her up and second went to get food bowl normally I handle them everyday!!! bloody hormonal ferrets 1 Quote Link to post

I might sex them before then though. I was expecting my jill to get a bit nippy but shes been ok so far. 1 Quote Link to post
rabbit demon 302
Been handling mine to check they were ok since they were just a week old. Jill was fine. not nippy in the slightest. Seen some you cant go near after they have had kits. If shes getting stressed out leave them for another bit. Quote Link to post
bowburnbandit 20
I handled mine after 5 days and my Jill was fine, I have had them out every day since.I wasn't sure about handling them as I've never had kits before but I was picking them up and giving them to the Jill to take back into the nest ( no idea if it was a good idea but made sense in my head). As rabbit demon says just keep an eye on your Jill and play it by ear. Best of luck 1 Quote Link to post
The one 8,488
I normally wait till there coming out the nest box and the Jill's tired of them and she doesn't seem to mind you picking them up , then if it's a big litter I take the jill away for a couple of hours each day to give her a break and at six weeks take her away completely and run the kits on by themselves for a couple of weeks to see there eating fine etc and that's when I go to town and handle them as much as possible 3 Quote Link to post
