The only thing you need to know is the judge lol

I showed my young un this year at kelmarsh (bit of fun and socialisation) and while all the other folk were contorting their dogs into daft statuesque positions Fred just dug holes, ate grass and gene

Ive always found if I show any of my dogs be it a terrier or lurcher I get nowt......However if my 23 yr old blond mrs is holding the lead they miraculously end up with a rosette.....Strange ay.

I went to a couple of lurcher and terrier shows recently, and thoroughly enjoyed them. I may even have found a new interest, but a couple of questions occurred to me......

If I wanted to enter a lurcher in a show, does he/she have to be intact, or are neutered dogs allowed ?

Secondly, do you have to show any breeding history or information ?

Apologies for asking dumbass beginners questions, but we were all beginners once......

Cheers

BB

Most of your questions are answered above but I'd add that some judges wouldn't place a dog that's castrated.

It`s a bit of fun if you enjoy it for what it is, but many get a bit too serious over a 50pence rosette. Wouldnt worry myself over being precise as to the true percentage`s of the parentage(unless say its a bull class for example) as you hear some nonsense from many owners about their dogs. Myself i cant remember any owner telling me that their dog was anything less than the real deal when out in the field & who was i to argue, its a beauty contest no more, no less . Myself i look for the dog i wanted to take home, but opinions are like arseholes(everybody has one) & 1 mans meat is anothers poison so respect that . However sometimes you watch judging & they pick out some total mutts but the judge is the judge so why make a scene because you feel your dogs better looking? Good looks never killed a hare but neither does ugly guarantee that it will. Sometime`s emotions can run high over what was picked over another dog, especially when a sunny day & alcahol enter the equation. I remember 1 show i was the steward at & the visiting judge only picked out a 3rd & 2nd prize. Asked him what he was playing at & i was told there wasnt a dog in the class that merited a 1st prize!!!!! Suggested he get his arse back in there & pick one before he caused a riot & im glad to say he did albeit muttering that he wouldnt judge another show for our club. Enjoy the day & the craic as its an excellent day out to meet others & to socialise your dog, but treat much of what you hear with pinch of salt. treat the day as day out with your dogs & get some pictures on the site for a bit of interest :toast: :victory:

Was about to say the most important part of winning any class is the large breasted girl on then other end of the lead...

The shows are there to support the hunts ,if people don't go and show there face and support there local working dog shows they will die out same as the hunting ,we all try to keep the hunting /shows going for our kids and grand kids ,if anybody seen the cock of the north you would of seen the finest of dog with some of the top dog men in the country ,my dogs weren't entered because they wernt in as good shape as them, simple as ,for the sake of a few quid its a good day out ,I like to see all the different breeds of working dog ,lads when you see a young lad walk out the ring with his red rossett in the child handler class with his pride and joy makes me so happy , some of these kids will grow up with a passion for dogs like us and will keep hunting with dogs alive, I think that some shows donate there money to help the people that were injured in the armed forces fighting for our country ,so lads stop being kennel blind and get them ugle dogs back in the ring atb bobza

Thanks for the input. Much in line with my own thoughts - its just a bit of fun on a summer's afternoon.

Mind you, I'm the sort who doesn't take anything terribly seriously, if I can help it.

The only person who must take the day seriously,..is the Judge...
