gnasher16 30,046
I think all dogs are individuals and all have their own characters and personalities.......some dogs will have the mental fortitude to brush off a bad memory others will let it fester in their mind..................others are too thick to let it bother them either way and will only learn the hard way..............doesnt make a difference to the working quality of a dog in my opinion its just their own way of dealing with things.
oneredtrim 148
A dog/pup can become a fear-biter very early doors by dint of being nappered, which can prove problematic to it's working abilities if it's got to graft with other mutts. i think a dog that's clearly parrot with it's owner may well remember bad experiences, seen a mong from school yrs back with a border that looked gutted, then i seen him again with his wife and child....with the border, all three were defeated. Ossie n Arch 1,682
We've had Ossie 6 1/2 years now. I've never hit him in all that time. Not something i'd ever do TBH. But if he's done something wrong and he knows he's in trouble, he'll fall straight onto the floor looking for all the world like he is expecting a beating. Not nice to see the fear in his eyes. We often wonder what sort of life he had before we got him.

I got my dog when he was 7 months old, I was his fourth owner, somewhere along the line I assume someone wearing a hi vis jacket gave him a beating because he used to get upset every time he saw someone wearing one, I started wearing a hi vis every time I walked him to desensitize him which worked luckily.
