flipbull 1,139
I have had my pup retrieving different objects from day one and he is now 9 1/2 months. The rabbits he has caught so far have been caught very close to me and I have approached him and taken them off him live. So last night decided to give him a go with the hope of him retrieving live to hand, and giving him, a little confidence booster. He run one and caught it about 60 yards from me so I stayed where I was. Pup Lied down with it then stood up looking round to me and keeping an eye on his catch at the same time looking a bit confused. So I calls him and he is still looking looking like he half wants to come and the other half wanted to stay with his catch. I decided to walk in the opposite direction.I had A glance back and he was coming bringing the quarry with which was now dead.Took it off him and gave him some praise and put him back on the slip. 30 mins later slips him on another and took it about the same distance, this time didn't lie down and he come back with it live but he walked a bit past me with it and I just told him to stay and then to leave it taking it from his mouth, after that I called it a night ending on a positive note. Hopefully the next time he starts like he finished. So all the training he has had with different objects didn't really pan out the way I thought as in retrieving live quarry, so in my opinion you can't beat teaching/learning with live quarry in the field. If only it was as simple as this A couple more pics over weekend Back home with his catch 6 Quote Link to post

straight2hand 303
Well done mate, hard work pays off! And even when it doesn't you have to give yourself the highest chance of the dog bringing it back by preparation in the first place! ATB Quote Link to post
