earth-thrower 493
Went to check a pair of traps, at the 17th tee.Noticed right away, the spot had been disturbed. With a footprint,on top as well ! lol Found the turf, (tamped down) but only one trapline ? Think the trap, probably had the mole in it, as well.Cant quite make my mind up, what happened here.Could be a few possibilities, i suppose ? lol Bloody annoying, but !........ Golfers were obviously passing,..(chatting to a few, etc). If it wasnt anybody watching me,....it could have been a fox,dug it out.I find they either take the trap & mole, or pull the mole out, & leave the trap, or else leave the trap & mole together next to the hole (sometimes the mole is lying seperate, from the trap ? ) lol,...If that was the case, the trap (&mole) are easily discovered, by golfers or dog walkers ? lol but, ive thought of something else, too,....... I also wouldnt be surprised,if the mole was 'foul caught',in the trap, and managed to drag itself out, onto the surface,...(cause of the type of set up, it was) This wouldnt have happened with me, if i had been using a duffus ?,....lol Quote Link to post

unclepesta 101
well any cheapo would for do for a mole trap. its worth looking into if you wanna find treasure other than traps but a very basic one should do the job. good makes that are pricey minelab xp tesoro garret whites. i would just find a second hand basic detector for mole traps probably find one second hand cheap something like this about twenty quid. maybe less on a carboot. best to be patient as detectors are in thing at the moment. if you got land or farmland you can find some interesting stuff. lots of hoards found with million pound pay outs. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/metal-detector-MICRONTA-3001-/311373386212?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item487f4cd1e4 thats a cheapo but will find moletraps all day. mole traps are quit big so detectors can find them at depth of a foot or more quit easy.. usually when a trap is lost you know the area to within a metre or two so a detector is easy. all the guys with land and permission should have a go its not easy its a lot of crap digging rubbish but now and again a gem turns up. heres a little video of a hoard dig watch fun starts about 2mins 40 seconds in to it. bryn27 89
This metal detecting lark is a highly skilled operation, bloody things detect more crap than enough until you learn to use the options correctly. I had a mate whose kit was £1000 + and we had a right slow game on to find 1 talpex. Quote Link to post

OldTrapCollector 377
Wouldn't it be easier to find a better way of marking them so you don't lose them in the first place? Quote Link to post
