joel222 65
I'm not sure if this is the right section so if not could a mod please move it. On Wednesday morning around 8am my dad had my dog out walking with his young whippet around fields that he walks everyday in west Auckland, co durham. Whilst talking to a lady that he's never seen before my dog disappeared which was very strange as he's a good obedient dog that's never done this kind of thing before. My dad stayed out looking for him and my wife and myself both came home from work to help with the search which was unsuccessful. My dog knows his way around the area very well so I left the gate and his pen door open hoping he may return on his own whilst we were out looking. This carried on into the evening, then back at it Thursday morning through to Thursday night, looking on foot and driving upto Appleby as I started to think he'd been taken by travellers that were parked on the roadside near to where he went missing but with no luck. We also rang the vets, police, kennels and were constantly checking stray dog websites. I went back to work Friday morning as I truly thought that I'd seen the last of him and my wife was at home in case he returned on his own. When checking a website called Stray Aid around 3pm my wife spotted him on there so drove straight through for him. He'd been found walking toward my house, maybe 300 yards away in a bit of a bad way by a girl and taken to the vets who checked him over and sent him to the kennels. I returned home from work as soon as my wife give me the news that she'd found him and was waiting for her to return with him. When she fetched him in he was very pleased to see me but very weak and covered in deep cuts and chunks missing from him on all of his legs and on his back and neck. When a neighbour found that he was back she came to see him and he was terrified of her, and he usually lets her make a fuss of him so as well as his physical injuries he seems to be mentally scarred from his ordeal. Now I don't know where he'd been for two days, who/what he's been with, but I know that he hadn't just been wandering around as he would of come home. I believe that the lady my dad was talking to when he went missing had something to do with it as he'd never seen her before and he walks up there everyday at the same time and she's not been since. Maybe she wasn't alone and it is a common scam they use, I guess I'll never know what he's been through or where he's been but I'm just glad to have him back with us. I've not been on this forum for years but thought I'd write this on here just to warn you all to be vigilant when out with your dogs, I always thought my dog was secure in his kennel but dogs seem to be going missing whilst out and about. Snifferboy 659
Glad you got him back... There's some buggers around, a friend of mine had her dog taken from her side while she was sat down at a country show having a cuppa, she said she looked across and saw a terrier that looked like hers, she kept looking and realised it was hers! She obviously made a massive fuss and started shouting as she ran over, they gave the dog back and disappeared. They'd sat down behind her at a table had a quick drink apparently and made of with it, 30 seconds later that dog would have gone. 1 Quote Link to post

snizle06 202
Maybe he hunted something up and got lost and then got a chopping of a strange dog. One of my lurchers as a pup was a fecker for hunting on I lost him when he was a young dog for 2 days a neighbour herd he was down at the main road with a line of traffic behind him I was there within 5 minutes and he was gone again took another few hours to find him. One thing is for sure he was fair hungry after his adventure. Never got lost since but a fecker to hunt on, but I like that in a lurcher 1 Quote Link to post
