neems 2,406
They feel they should have been born disabled or disfigured http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/becoming-disabled-by-choice-not-chance-transabled-people-feel-like-impostors-in-their-fully-working-bodies People like Jason have been classified as ‘‘transabled’’ — feeling like imposters in their bodies, their arms and legs in full working order. “We define transability as the desire or the need for a person identified as able-bodied by other people to transform his or her body to obtain a physical impairment,” says Alexandre Baril, a Quebec born academic who will present on “transability” at this week’s Congress of the Social Sciences and Humanities at the University of Ottawa. “The person could want to become deaf, blind, amputee, paraplegic. It’s a really, really strong desire.”

Blackbriar 8,569
Agree with Kay - all this "born in the wrong body" bollox. They end up looking exactly what they are - a bloke in a dress ! "Transabled" seems to be the latest in the "wrong body" band wagon. Who can come up with the latest ridiculous idea to express their individuality and discuss their 'life of torment' in a slot on This Morning. Or, put a better way, what stupid idea can I dream up to draw attention to myself for a while ? How do they know they were "born in the wrong body" ? I was born in the right body, but I couldn't describe the feeling to you ! So how does a lad of 3 know this, as they often claim ? And why is "man-woman" much more common than "woman-man" ? Makes me inclined to believe that this is all a psychiatric condition, rather than a physical 'illness'. I don't see why the NHS (ie the taxpayer) should pay to indulge these fantasies, and I don't like the whole "I'm a woman now, marvel at my transformation" scenario - my reply would be "see what happens if you stop taking the tablets, pal !" I think this would be a good opportunity to announce that I am, in fact, transethnic.....from a very young age I've felt that I should have been born a Watusi pygmy. That should get me 15 minutes with Ruth and Eammon !

That should get me 15 minutes with Ruth and Eammon ! Its not a new thing, body dis-morphia/body modification., I came across it a good 15/20 years ago when I was heavily into piercing. Head cases have been chopping parts off themselves for a good while. This ranges from finger tips, fingers and genitals all the way up to arms and legs in the extreme cases, mostly home done. I watched a doc on it. Quite a lot of them had some sort of amputee/disabled influence when young that grows into this behavior, they see themselves as having the same disfigurement or missing limb. It was mental, it featured people faking missing limbs, living in wheelchairs for years, sat on one leg even though there was nothing wrong with them. there was also people damaging themselves to get the required op. One guy shot himself so he could have his arm off. Then there was the total nuts, who just wanted to do it to "modify" their bodies for no other reason than to look different.
