Deer Dogs

SP - They have a higher catch rate in the open, than in the woods. So I guess so. I wasn't looking for an argument though.

 

M - Not even sure I understand your point. . . . . who said anything about being 'dross bred'. I just don't think you can say if you get a dog with x% this and y% that, it will defiantly be the best choice for a particular quarry . . . . . if a dog is a good dog, and from a line of good dogs, and it does the job, what exactly is in it, is not the most important thing in the world.

 

And yes, running flat out in the woods is a bad idea. . . . hence the tough and smart part.

 

My dogs neither tough nor smart but does fine in thick woodland :laugh:

 

 

I took him through very thick woodland almost everyday the first year of his life and he negotiates it fine now,if his little lizard brain is capable of learning to negotiate it i'm sure any normal dog can.

There are deer dog`s & there are dog`s that take deer, the difference is in the mental attitude of the dog to get the job over quickly whether that be in the open or woodland. Most dog`s will take

There's nothing hard about catching roe if the dogs fast fit and willing to take them it's usually game over for the deer.

Deer dogs are so last season ... It's all about the pig dogs this year .......

deer dogs ,boar dogs aren't that part of being the allrounder ?..........rabbits enough test for me these days since the ban

Some rabbits can be very nasty ... One scratched me today .......
