leethedog 3,071
First couple of feeds isn't it like a human child or any other mammal baby Quote Link to post
Griz 89
I would leave all pups with the bitch as long as possible , and not remove any of them if they and the bitch are doing well......Be sure to feed the mother well, with plenty of meat protein......I've raised several litters of 8 pups with all doing well....Top quality feed for the mother is the most important thing. 1 Quote Link to post
francolin 449
perhaps top the pups up if the bitch is a good temperament and you are concerned, but 7 should be no bother, best a luck with them . Quote Link to post

socks 32,253
Any one have any tips on getting pups eating mine are 4 weeks now tryin them on porridge and watered down milk wit cereal an they have little interest in it That's because dogs don't eat cereal ... As has been said start them on minced chicken or beef ... Warm it up a bit and they will wolf it down ........ 4 Quote Link to post

leethedog 3,071
So just being devil's advocate if a bitches milk drys up or she gets mastitis it means all the pups are going to be week and little???? Quote Link to post
socks 32,253
Nobody is saying that BUT the fact is you can't beat mothers milk ........ 2 Quote Link to post
Mooching Celt 659
Had a bitch when i was a kid that got pyramtria (sp?) when pups were 4 days old, vet advised to get them lapping goats milk and when a few days older n teeth coming through add finely minced meat. They took to it fine but were never what you'd call strong pups Quote Link to post
Rabbit Hunter 6,613
To me it just makes sense to let nature do the work, and if there's problems intervene and help the bitch out. But why fix something that isn't broken? 3 Quote Link to post
