Retrieving

Just come back with terriers and lurcher and rabbit bolts lurcher kills normal brings back to me a least 10 foot away but today pist off and starting eating it and wood not bring back any advise wood be helpful

First, take the dog alone, NOT with other dogs. Terriers are particularly bad for grabbing prey off other dogs

 

Second, do not under any circumstances get cross with the dog, you want it to be comfortable sharing your space even though the natural thing for a predator is to be jealous over its prey

 

Third, if the dog brings rabbits back to hand but won't let go, you are almost there.dont try to take the bunny, just hold it gently in one hand and stroke and praise the dog, keep doing this until the dog lets go. Don't get to a tug of war, just stay calm. As soon as the dog lets go, throw the rabbit for it to fetch a few times, get the dog excited and happy, make sure it knows the fun isn't going to end just because it brings back the rabbit.

Took him to the park Wednesday done bit of retrieving and he was spot on really happy the out yesterday evening he mowed a rabbit up and was pretty good terriers were on a lead so might be the case he thinks they are going to steal it thank for the replys
