Uttings are the best mail order company I've used. If you order before 2 one day the items will arrive and I absolutely guarantee they will be the next day. Packaging is superb and the service, as in letting you know where the item is from them too you, is faultless. Nuff said. 1 Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
HAWKE PANORAMA EV 4-12x50mm IR AO is performing brilliantly on my .177 HW97K. The Panorama 40mm version is an honest little cracker too. Really, for the money you can pick these two panoramas up for, they are a real bargain for a Weihrauch springer! Quote Link to post

VWman 232
So what about the Bushnell legend 3-9x40 at £215 or Nikon prostaff field master 4.5-14x40. Is it worth pushing the boat out to go up from 25mm tube to 30mm tube and dose the blow the cost out of the water. Can the Nikon stand a bit of rain. Quote Link to post
Rez 4,961
Get the staff man. More aim points unless you're rare purist and go for the 30/30... Dare ya. Quote Link to post
VWman 232
I have been looking at the price point of the Nikon and bushnell legend and think that is ok for a springer but when you look at the bushnell ellite at 550 uttings think that is a step to far for an air rifle of my type. What makes them worth the money ?. On the 200 ish price point is there any 30 mm tube and is that worth bothering with ?. Quote Link to post
jonnie bravo 572
The Bushnell trophy is a great bit of glass for the money, and you can get it in mil dot. I've owned two and the glass is great. I would love to try a prostaff! The mtc mamba is a 30mm tube, they are nice glass too solid construction bit weighty and bulky for me but good. The scb reticle is a bit cluttered, plenty of useful aim points but much prefer the AMD reticle. Quote Link to post

Hello Pianoman I noticed you have a Nikon Field master, what is it like. I think of Nikon camera lenses which are great ? Hi VWman. Excellent scope the Fieldmaster. Can be a bit pricey though. This particular model is a 6-18x40mm Fixed Focus Paralax with target turrets and a simple, very fine wire reticle with a tiny red centre dot. In zero it is unbelievably accurate. It cost me about £425 from Nigel Lambert at Wighill Park Guns at Tadcaster, N. Yorkshire.. But it will withstand all that a spring rifle can dish out and it is brilliant for long range 40+ yard shooting. I've got it sitting on my FAC HW80 .22 and it doesn't miss a beat no matter how many full-recoil shots I whack through it. The lenses are beautifully clear and to be honest, this would make an incredible scope for a rimfire/centre-fire rifle. ATB. Simon Edited June 2, 2015 by pianoman Quote Link to post
VWman 232
Is there no takers on the Bushnell Legend HD rain guard, good points or bad ? I can't find a test on the Nikon Field master that Rez give me the link for. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
I've had several Bushnell Scopes over the years and not had a complaint with any of them. Even the budget-end Banners are a decent scope for an air rifle. I currently use a Bushnell Scopechief 4-14x50 scope on my HW77 .22. Fantastic scope that alas, is no longer made. It cost over £350 when I bought it new in 2000. Bushnell Legend are excellent scopes from what I've seen of them. Certainly worth a closer look Reviews are a bit mixed but, you can't please everybody. Generally, they are a well-liked and popular scope. From my experience with Bushnell in the past, these will make a superb air rifle scope. And the warranty Bushnell offer is superb too. No fuss or quibble. Quote Link to post
VWman 232
Actually, depending on your calibre, I cant get my cock out enough over Nikon Prostaffs... I only say that as they have a nice but peculiar BDC ret, ideal for 22. Bargin this... http://www.uttings.co.uk/p102936-nikon-field-master-4-5-14x40-sf-m-np-rifle-scope/#.VWwj11xVhBc Hello Rez The link takes us to the Nikon 4.5-14x40 sf niko plex ret for 199, is that the one to go for ? I had been looking at the Prostaff 3-9x50 rifle scope bdc, what you think ? Are the Bushnell legend 3-9x50 crap as no one has spoke up for them ? Quote Link to post

Its all just preference. They will be as good as each other. Get that Prostaff and you'll not look back... its somewhat an acquired taste mind, but its proper understated glass, units are real sturdy too. Id go for the BDC, but if your a purist, and they are rare these days, go for the 30 / 30 nikoplex and learn the old way... no aim points etc. The link was just to a somewhat more 'tactical' style of scope with its settings, numbers etc. The 3-9x50 will be just fine. Make sure your mounts cater for the objective being so big. I had a 3-9x40 [i dont really see the need for bigger and wouldn't buy anything bigger than 42 myself] on my 97 once and it was superb. Really superb. Make sure you look thorugh and handle one first... The gold "ProStaff" wording on the outer casing is a subtle but a classy touch too. Quote Link to post

Thanks Rez I will have a closer look at the Nikons as there are a few so don't want to cock it up but stocks seem a bit iffy looking at Uttings. Think 3to9 should be ok for HW 95 0r the 77 ?. The none AO was the one I was looking at, think it says Rim fire 3-9x50 with 98% light transmission. I have Nikon cameras which are spot on. Quote Link to post
pianoman 3,587
Considering most of us shoot on 6 or 7 mag, a quality 3-9x40 or 50 is really all we need for hunting with an air rifle. So a decent Bushnell in this configuration will be really nice. I think there is too much on offer from manfacturers on higher mag scopes which is why the trusty 3-9x40 or 50mm gets overlooked and no-one comments. It's not because they are bad in any way, it's because hardly anyone buys this format in a scope anymore. Edited June 3, 2015 by pianoman 1 Quote Link to post
