marshman 7,758
I've been having a look through some old photos and came across this picture it was taken about twenty odd years ago . The black dog in the middle was my dog , he was given to me and as the man that bred him handed him to me I can remember him saying " make a friend of him as he wont be messed about " and he was right that dog didn't give a f**k for no man or dog , don't get me wrong he wasn't aggressive towards humans or other dogs but if another dog started it was on , if a human was rough with him or raised there hand to him it was on . All through the summer me and him became good mates and for the rest of he's life we had some days that will stay with me until I leave this world. He wasn't a gambling dog but everytime we went out he caught something , he wasn't overly fast but could stick also this dog had a coursing brain and could read a hare . One day I was in some good coursing men's company that had some real good dogs . Anyway a hare jumps in front of me and I slip my old black dog he seemed to take an age to get to the hare but eventually got to him in the edge of a wood . He managed to to bend it just before the hare went into the wood anyway up and down the line of the wood they went , my old dog keeping in between the wood and the hare. All of a sudden the hare goes back into the open field and my dog follows as he put a bend in he strikes and miss , the hare puts in a turn of speed and turns back to the wood , I think that's it he beaten him the hare will be into cover and away. But my dog puts in all the speed he could muster and just bends the hare away from the wood again. Then they both went through the same up and down the edge of the wood as before , now the hare try's the same trick again and makes for the open field trying to draw my dog away . This time my dogs wide to he's trick and just eases slowly behind the hare not rushing a strike like before he wates then strikes and jobs a good in hare caught. All the men on the field said what a race it was . Sorry for the long post I just thought id share a good memory of a good sporting dog lol . 17 Quote Link to post
