earth-thrower 493
Heres a couple of 'moling spades' i got made. The wee ones a 'prototype' made by a crowd, that make 'garden tools'. The others made by a proper traditional blacksmith.Think, thats me sorted out now, as far as having a suitable 'mole spud' for the job,is concerned,.....lol Edited December 6, 2018 by earth-thrower 2 Quote Link to post
mad4it 695
nice spades all the best with them Quote Link to post
earth-thrower 493
nice spades all the best with them Thanks mate,.... that wee one is really light, for carrying, but strong. The bigger one i thought it might be a good idea to have the "blade" (spade head), and 'probe' combined as the one tool ? lol The shorter length of the wee one, is also handy for those who like to 'kneel', when digging out a 'turf plug' ,to place a trap. earth-thrower 493
They do look a nice bit of kit mate Cheers bud,..When your forwarding drawings (basic in my case ! lol) , specifications, sizes,etc,.....its easy to miss the odd detail out,...(as i did) lol Also , im not that 'technical', so cause i wasnt that familiar, i left it up to those who made them, as far as how long the 'sockets' where ? how they where attached, etc,.....but overall, they are definately 'fit for purpose', (in my opinion) but im certainly not going to claim, they are 'perfect',....lol Both, are well made and durable, though. (i can see the handiness,of it) lol ,....i think that crowd that made the 'wee spade', also do a version of that (same name),....(sure i seen it in a catalogue, or something,of thiers) Quote Link to post

Just a thought, Bryn,....you dont think im carrying all that round, at the one time, do you ? ha ha Interesting point is, i could get away with carrying just that 'wee spade' alone, and NO 'dibber', over a fair bit, of ground i do ? (if you know what, im saying) well, the spade, and 'trap bag/bucket', i mean. Edited May 31, 2015 by earth-thrower Quote Link to post
bryn27 89
No didn't for one second E T .just I travel as light as possible and carry the knife and probe with a game bag and it works for me. probe is homemade with an old T handle spade shank. Quote Link to post
bryn27 89
Best thing to help me is printing the maps off of the land to trap and simply using ground spray 2 strides to the north of each trap. Just do what works best for you yourself I say. Quote Link to post

bryn27 89
I don't bother with deep runs so much, simply scan an eye and look for where they are coming closer to the surface. A good deep run down the fence line would warrant the spade and multiple traps all the way down it though. Quote Link to post
iseremarc 11
Don't want to appear too health and safety, but if I was using a spade with a spike on top of the shaft I'd be worried about impaling myself on it. Or merely gouging an eye out. Quote Link to post
