Muscle Loss

Ay injury, lameness?

Had a bitch some years ago which ran into a gate post, hit the side of her neck. Now there is a nerve which runs down the side of the neck and serves the foreleg, think its called the radial nerve but could be wrong, and the bitch damaged this nerve. So she could walk fine, canter or gallop fine in a straight line, but couldn't use the leg properly at a trot or to turn. This is because the nerve damage stopped her from moving the leg backwards although it could swing forwards under its own momentum. Because it couldn't move properly, the shoulder muscle completely wasted.

Bit of a long winded answer, sorry, but after about a year she had learned to cope brilliantly, and although never quite the same as before she could still work to a point

good thread that above , my young 1x gsd x grey Buck hurt his shoulder 18 months ago, had to rest him 8 weeks just lead work, then 3 weeks bike work. He runs well with it , had some good bags with him on long nights. But he does seem bit stiff in it the next day, so just rest him next day with steady exercise, and he ready to go again with the 2-3 days rest no prob, I think as he gets older say 7-8 years old it prob play him up a bit, but by then I prob have another pup to bring on ,if I am still into lurchers then.!

any one ever had a lurcher loose the muscle on their shoulder blade .brought it to two different people wit same result .any info be welcome

Need more info, such as how long has it been a problem, any injuries, is it painful, shortened etc etc plus what others who have seen it said? What age is it, basically apint a picture of the whole situation in words then post it with a picture of the shoulder and people can then make informed answers.

Just had a dog put to sleep this week with what was initially diagnosed as a dislocated shoulder, dogs muscle dropped off his shoulder blade, was limping yet not seemingly in any pain you could press, twist, poke and raise his leg without any issues..but a scan revealed the dog had a huge cancerous tumour inside in him and was causing the problem.. Just a heads up buddy I'm sure your mutt won't have the same problem but sounds exactly the same..Atb matey
