Medway No Take Zone Coming

While the nursery areas need to be protected, more needs to be done about the pair trawlers in the spring. One pair of trawlers take in one trip more than the all the pleasure anglers put together in a year.

Bass needs to be made a pressure stock fish. They can then cap what each boat takes, as it is a non pressure stock fish at the moment, they can take what they like landing of 10 ton of bass per pair of trawlers is common in the spring as the bass are migrating from the 10 degree thermocline on the S W approaches where they over winter.

These are prime spawning fish that do not get to spawn.

Its a very fine line that needs to be drawn. I totally agree with your post, the impact of pleasure anglers on any fish stock is surely minimal by comparison to the impact of commercial fishing. I would have thought a bag limit might be more appropriate than a total ban? Although likely unenforceable.

Unfortunately our fishing industry in general is in need of total reform, and no knee jerk quotas that big business can dodge while small, inshore fishermen are left with the sting. The coastal under 10M fleet has been hit so hard by quota and law aimed at larger vessels.

It used to really gaul me when we were longlining for cod to see massive spanish trawlers under a mile from our coast raping our water. If I had my way the navy would protect our waters with authorisation to torpedo any Spanish, French or non Uk vessel fishing our grounds.

I used to work on an under 10m Tangle netter fishing relatively shallow water under 100ft a couple of times we lost a mile of net at a time to large trawlers working inshore under the cover of darkness. Fisheries nowhere to be seen. Drop a drift net that was over length in the water and they were on you like a shot.

Typical.

Those are the b*****ds that need to be regulated. We've had the Spaniards trawling through our lines as we were hauling them before.

So many EU rules are flouted by other EU states as well, it seems the UK are the only ones that follow them.

Did you know that Danemark and Norway land Sandeels as by-catch which are then burned in power stations? How can that be right?

Blue Planet Society: Where have all the sandeels gone? http://blueplanetsociety.blogspot.co.uk/2009/06/where-have-all-sandeels-gone.html?m=1

Sandeels being a Major food source for bass... Cod... Almost anything that swims.

The other thing I find f***ing disgusting is the way quota is bought and sold, traded like a commodity by people like Manchester united and Chelsea football clubs.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-13682451

How is a family man who runs an under 10M inshore vessel meant to compete with that? Amongst all of the other shit our inshore fleet has to deal with. We aren't talking big business. I mean a man whose catches are sold to put food on his family's table.

When the EU referendum comes I will be voting to leave the EU based solely on what I see to be utter injustices in our fisheries industry alone.

Also I will be offering my services to scuttle any non UK boat fishing in our waters after we have left the European union!

i argee with you all but this is also going to stop people fishing from the shore.

I think it disgusting that recreational anglers can only take three bass and as said the boats can take what they like,
