Strong Stuff 2,171
Without going into huge detail publicly mate, you can learn to get a grip of anxiety MOST of the time through CBT therapy, there will be a big waiting list, but you might be lucky.Ask for a referral BEFORE he prescribes anything, he should do this anyway these days. Drugs aren't always the answer, well not prescribed ones anyway haha, you'd be amazed how simple it can be to change your thought processes to massively reduce anxiety, it takes a lot of practice, but it can definitely be done. Good on you for sharing, I can't help with the SGC as I've never had one, but I know wayyyyy too much about mentalness lol 4 Quote Link to post

Tremo 138
So I'm finally going to see my doctor for a condition I've had all my life. It has stopped me from doing alot of things in my life; going to cinemas, shopping centres, busy supermarkets, traveling. Basicly I'm shy, especially around people I don't know. Surprisingly going to the dentist (somthing people usualy take anxiety meds for) doesn't even bother me in the slightest because they are people I know. The problem is that it's a mental disorder and somthing I will have to declare on my Shotgun renewal in 2-3 years, and the usual medication subscribed for this condition are anti-depressants despite me not being depressed in the slightest. If I'm perfectly honest my condition and has been very kind to me; I'm in my mid twentys, bought a 3 bedroom house in a nice country village, walking distance from my place of work and where I shoot, I do all my shopping online and I want for nothing. So it kind of begs the question is it worth risking my SGC to go to the cinema? I'm going to book an appointment tomorrow but If I'm subscribed anti-depressants I'm just going refuse, I don't need that in my life. I'm going to push to see if I can get diazepam on an occasional use basis only tho, I do hear they don't like giving them out anymore since the 70's where every man and his dog were on them before they realised they were highly addictive, but they still give them out for flying anxiety and my condition isn't much difference and I doubt a FAO would see any harm in that. If anyone has had a similar situation, knows anyone who has or have any thoughts at all please let me know. It is a difficult one mate. I know someone who suffered much along the same lines as you. As far as I know he tried hypnotherapy, CBT and prescribed medication at some stage. It was painful to see, but thankfully he has come out the other side, although it took time and hard (some times painful) work. The hypnotherapy was a waste of time, but he felt that a combination of the CBT with help from the medication helped to get him there. I remember that as well these measures he also took the incentive to push himself a little extra every day, stretching the boundaries that were constraining him. The mind is a very powerful force and is greatly understood as Bird said. I hope that it all works out for you mate. ATB 1 Quote Link to post
