mattybugeye 884
What cross do you think he is then mate? I thought Salukis came either smooth or feathered Quote Link to post
mally 832
As already mentioned first x's are smooth. My whippet Sagar has just covered a friends nice bred smooth pure saluki. He's seen my dog work and wanted a pup out of them both as do 3 of his friends who's seen both dogs run. Would have a pup myself if I wasn't ill. Hopefully they'll be like a long range missile instead of a pocket rocket lol Although my whippet has a good set of lungs on him and stays longer than the f***ing mother in law. Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
have any of you owned or own this cross I'm thinking of getting a pup to go with my collie whippet saluki grayhound jack Wanted pure saluki but wanting a smaller dog so second option was a whippet so why not look for a cross If anyone seen any available please let me know I'm Wakefield area but willing to travel Thanks How big is jack mate that's the same kind of breeding as mine our blade stands just under 21 good strong little dog plenty of brains and more stamina than any other dog I've seen, 100% in the house 110% in the field Quote Link to post
maud15 3
Good mix then! He might lose his labrador looks as he grows up, does jack mix with many other dogs if so what's he like? I'm just curious as I have a young lurcher and I am considering getting another but he can be snappy with other dogs so I'm not sure. Quote Link to post

mhopton 807
Hope this all works out mate,I would just like to give one bit of advice if all goes to plane and you get the dog make sure when they first meet make it away from your home and keep them out for a good walk together and when they are back home give them both a bath (important) as they will both smell the same and it really does make them less likely to fight atb mark 1 Quote Link to post
mhopton 807
Start with a torch in the house teasing him like you would a cat so when he's out first time instinct kicks in Worked for me Quote Link to post
mattybugeye 884
Yea been doing thaT mate Thanks for that I will defiantly do that Quote Link to post
dodger 2,765
Could be alsorts mate but saturated with saluki none the less but that's how most of these good saluki x's are bred now anyway over generations some go back 40 years, unless a 3/4 bred or even sometimes 5/8s as like said you don't get feathering with 1st x's, but as said there just lurchers at the end of the day with plenty of saluki in there you'll probably never know his history but could be a genuine reason he's in there maybe not it's a gamble but he looks well n as tho he's had time spent on him n looked so that's a good sign hope it works out for you atb.. 1 Quote Link to post
optimus 447
Genuine first crosses from a saluki to a greyhound or a whippet(pedigree or hardblood) are always smooth. However further crossing from genuine half crosses will throw some with saluki feathering. There is always someone who will pop up & claim they have one but the key word is genuine when talking about first crosses. Often it is simply a case of what the vendor has told them about the breeding of whatever they are selling Edited June 5, 2015 by optimus 3 Quote Link to post

mally 832
The bitch was bred by Paul Sagar and belongs to a good friend. Seen her run from 18 months old and I'd have her in my kennel. Very quick too for a pure saluki. The whippet I bred and I'm happy with him, always gives his all can't ask for anything else from a dog.. Quote Link to post
