I serviced my Golf my self the other week, new sump plug was £2, I got oil, fuel and air filters and the oil all in for about £50 I think it was. Took me about half an hour to do it all. I would advise to get a filter strap or chain to get the cover off the oil filter as they are b*****ds to get off.

On diesels when I change the fuel filter I fill the filter with a product called DAE

what is DAE

Its a fuel system conditioner

My mate has a garage and he swears by it

Run it through the system neat by filling the filter with it

I can relate to that,,i still haven't got a strap,,, and a few times I've had the put a long screwdriver through the oil filter to get it off,,lol

Mind your hands if your are trying to wallop a big flat head through the filter.......its sair when you smack the back of your own hand in a rage.

Also, if you are taking the priming pump off the top of a diesel fuel filter, mind your knuckles....when the ratchet slips and you whack your knuckles off the top of the block....it hurts real bad....

Good advice re the crushable sump plug washer....mind you i f you buy an air/oil/fuel filter kit, they usually come with the correct washers and seals...

One thing that I cant see has been mentioned, but I apologise if it has.

When you remove the old oil filter make sure the rubber seal comes off with it otherwise when you put the new one on it wont seal properly. Also before you put the new one one rub a small smear of oil around the rubber seal to help it seal when you screw it on.

Just wondering if anyone can help me..?
When I came to this house it had as part of the 'outbuildings' (for want of a better word) a coal store. Its a great space, attached to the house perfect for all sorts of storage, without coal, which I still use.
I'm looking to source a coal bunker to put outside. Thing is, we have recently put down a new patio, on which the coal bunker will stand, next to the gas bottles, (rural life is damned expensive!) and because of that I'm looking to find a smart looking one to fit in.

Now, after searching the usual, ebay, gumtree and general Google searches, what I have found is....
It's either one of them plastic Titan jobbies which are ugly as sin.
Those galvo tinny ones that always are seen second hand and rusting and are noisy as feck.
Or some ugly concrete ancient, heavyweight one, buyer collects from Hastings or John O Groats..!
Oh and then wood, no no no..!

Now nice ones do exist, the local boozer has a cracker in the garden, concrete too (so I can't rob it!!). It's been there a good few years so no one has a clue to where it came from...

So my question is, where would I find a decent coal bunker maker or supplier, that can do both quality and smart lookin products..???
