paul789 11
Been out to check my feeder today and shot a tree rat feeding.Just wondering what other hunters are using for bait, using barely and dog food mix, they seem to like it filling the feeder twice a week. 1 Quote Link to post
Dr B 186
I'm doing loads of squirrel shooting at the moment and I try a variety of 'mixes'. Things that work well, Peanuts, Monkey nuts, Almonds, even peanut butter (for the smell), Pine nuts, Hazelnut and Walnut kernals, blackheart seeds. You can get special peanut butter (no salt, no sugar) for red squirrels. But if they're are no reds about to help support, the greys will take it. Nuts in shells mean the tree rat will stay there and unpack it for longer in his little squat pose.....just long enough to squeeze a shot off.... Edited May 26, 2015 by Dr B Quote Link to post
Gaz56 7
Using peanuts at the moment, pricey but draws them in. Then I switch to whole maize which is pretty cheap for a big sack from the farm supplies shop. Out for a few hours early tomorrow, should pick a few off. Quote Link to post

The one 8,477
I was using rich tea biscuit to draw them into my body grippers after they wouldnt enter them for maize or nuts think the larger white surface area was the draw Quote Link to post
Gaz56 7
Had three in fairly quick session then it dried up. Topped the feeder up and will return and check it later in the week. If the level is down I will shoot it again if not being used I will move onto another hopper which is being used. I use four hoppers moving one of them to a new site from time to time and hit them when the squirrels are feeding heavily. Quote Link to post
