kilbs66 23
The Mike & Mitch Dating continued last night on another cracking permission of Mitch's. Things did not go to plan from the start really. We arrived at the said permission and Mitch realised he had left his hunting jacket behind, so back in the van phone Mrs M to meet us half way. Mitch and I are busy chatting when the phone rings and his Mrs says "did you not see me waving?". We had been too busy gassing to notice and driven straight past her. Once jacket in hand we arrive back at the permission and after a short walk with a crack at a pesky woody we arrive at the area we are going to plot up. Mitch goes one side of a large area of bushes and I go the other side so we are facing up the same way so no chance of BLUE on BLUE. I start ranging certain markers so I'm ready for when big ears pops out. All of a sudden I'm surrounded by thousands of midges that proceed to feast on all exposed parts of my skin. Not wanting to scream like a girl I lay there with my gloves and hat on in the heat looking through my fingers, suddenly to my left I catch a glimpse of something moving. I slowly open my fingers and realise it's a fox looking at me from what I know to be 20 metres. It stood there for 10 seconds and legged it. After another hour of zero bunnies and having been eaten nearly to the bone I get up and bump straight into Mitch who exclaims I'm getting f*****g eaten alive over there!!!!!! No s**t Sherlock. Back to the van for some jungle prep and we head off in another direction only to be met by a family of foxes enjoying themselves. Back to the van to put on the Nitesite and for Mitch to swap rifles. Start putting the NS200 together and a nut is missing. Luckily Mitch comes to the rescue and provides said nut. We head off to another location and plot up together. I'm sweeping the area with my Nitesite spotter and catch one to the left, I tell Mitch who swings his rifle over and I switch the IR on the spotter down so Mitch is not blinded and the rabbit is startled by the click (crap design Nitesite) I get a look from Mitch which says you t**t. Minutes later I pick up another one on the spotter to the right and Mitch bags it straight to the nut with precision and it drops dead on the spot. Suddenly I sneeze but do not have time to stifle it and I get a "I don't think we will be seeing many more after that". Then the alarm on the van starts going off and Mitch legs it away to investigate leaving all of his gear. I pack up carrying two rifles, two range finders, Nitesite spotter and my shooting sticks and leg it as fast as you can leg it carrying all that stuff towards him. False alarm fly in the van setting it off. Went back and picked up Mitch's rabbit and had a wander back to the van spotting wooden posts that we think are rabbits. All in all a great night with a good laugh even if we only got one. BLOODY FOXES!!!!! Off out again tonight and I'm ready I THINK!!! Whilst sitting here typing this I just bagged a squirrel and woody for uncle Mitch's freezer Edited May 26, 2015 by kilbs66 2 Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
Sounds like you could do with applying for a .222 and leaving the air rifle at home, with all those Charlies around Quote Link to post
kilbs66 23
Hi Charlie You are right but I think the most I would ever apply for is FAC air as I wouldn't want the extra hassle of having to account for ammo as well as a rifle. I think Mitch has a couple of pals with open tickets which he is going to take down there and sort out a few of those foxes. It was mobbed down there. I think we saw about six that night. It was still a good night if a little eventful Cheers Mike Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
Account for ammo? Please elaborate, the only accounting I do is having the amount I buy written on my ticket, and that is loaded rounds, I reload centerfire, and dont have the bullets noted on my ticket, so no hassle mate thats it, simple's Quote Link to post
