Soon Be June The 16Th....

Recommended Posts

The river season will be amongst us again soon, I might have a bash at the barbel again, having had a rest for the last few years. I think I did far too much barbelling and lost the 'buzz', an all-too-common thing in my life sadly. But here's a few piccys that might get peoples barbelling heads on.....three weeks to go...and counting.....Tight Lines folks....JD :victory:

Barbel have been hit severely by otters on our local stretch .An estimated 14lb fish was hauled out last season and part eaten by an otter .I used to be on the bank there non stop pre baiting which culmunated in a mate ,yes a mate catching a 13.7 monster in 12 inches of water at night .My own pb was 11.6 and im happy to leave it at that now stocks are down .

Aye, there's lots of barbel now getting hammered by them. Lots with the top of the tail fin bitten off. I feel sorry for them.

Of all the invasive species being brought into Ireland no ones thought of bringing in Barbel.

Do they travel well ? LOL.

I'd love to fish for them.

Regarding Otters ?

Would the decline in the Eel play a big part in the Otter problem ? The Eel once being the Otters favorite prey.

Here in Ireland the Otter is common and thriving but we don't seem to find the specimen fish you boys seem to find on the bank with just one bite taken out of them.

We have a decline in our Eels too but our rivers are full of fish but no one seems to have Otter problems.

I do realise commercial carp fisheries are a different scenario but we don't have many of them.
