Looking into getting my licence but a question I want to ask is if theirs an extra compartment for the ammo is that alright to use or does it have to be kept in a seperate place?

If the separate compartment is lockable then it's fine to use,

 

If not, then you'll need a small separate safe.

Unless you're talking about a shotgun and shotgun cartridges, in which case the cartridges don't need to be locked up as such.

Cheers for the replies, the cabinet I'm looking at has a lockable top section, and yes it is a shotgun but I'd feel better knowing their locked away as I've got young'uns

That's fair enough. You won't get many cartridges in the top bit though. Just be sensible with them. Cupboard out of reach, tool chest etc.

When the fao came to see me I showed him my cabinet which has a lockable top shelve but I said I just use that mostly when I've been out lamping as the bulk of my ammo is in my other cabinet in the loft and you can't expect me to wake the house up when I get in . He said no that's fine

Whilst were on the subject has anyone got a 3 gun cabinet with a lockable top section for sale in the northwest area.
