"fox Must Continue To Thrive"

Recommended Posts

An article in this weeks local paper, headed as above!!!

"About this time last year I was raving about following a fox through an urban area of Bristol.

This week I was in Shropshire, stuck in a traffic jam when a large fox wandered in front of my car carrying a dead magpie in its jaws. It wandered up and down the hedge on the dual carriageway before vanishing in to a field.

My heart missed a beat. What a wonderful sight, nature in front of my eyes. My only thought was to tell my family and friends and they were astonished at the news.

If I had mentioned this to our village's Rambo group their blood lust would have risen and they would be off hunting the poor beast, even though it has done is a favour by cutting the magpie population.

This was the week that I was told that the Hunting Act should be repealed as "foxes kill things, so why shouldn't we kill them?" I honestly thought our compassionate society had gone beyond this charge towards cruelty.

Stand by for our newly formed government to hint that they want to bring back hunting with dogs.

The only wild member of the dog family, foxes are easily spotted as they slink around searching for food. In wilder places they feed on small mammals, birds, frogs, earthworms and carrion. They will also eat berries and fruit.

However the red fox is also a flexible character using our towns and cities as a hunting ground as food dwindles in the countryside. They will raid bins and help to control pigeon and rat populations.

You will hear makes barking and also females letting off a spine-chilling scream particularly during winter courtship.

Foxes tend to be the size of a medium dog, a collie for instance. Their tops are a red tending towards orange, with a white underside. They have dark brown feet with a white tip on their orange brush. Their ears are tipped with black. They are found everywhere in the UK except for the Channel Islands, the Isles of Scilly, Scottish islands and the Isle of Man.

Let's hope they continue to thrive, adding to the rich, native wildlife we have in the region and countrywide."

Notice there's no mention of anything else they may eat!!!

Also no mention of the disease foxes spread mange worms etc or that they will be the most likely animal to transmit Rabies across the Channel why dont these with rose tinted views of Reynard actually understand the need for the centuries old animal population controls, instead of trying to force a countryside traditional way of life into the history books. Those that appear the most vocal and anti, are people that have no links ,association or contact in most cases with the countryside, its practises or indeed animals. Most of them are presumably vegetarian and think meat grows in supermarket freezers.

There's nothing wrong with foxes ( they're all cuddly and pose no threat at all ) lol.

The fact that they've run riot and put human beings in danger etc etc etc doesn't really matter! Come on we're talking about 'cuddly' foxes here!

fox carrying a dead maggie along a road most probably picked it up road-kill and didnt catch it as the article suggests, did anyone read the joanna lumley story earlier in the week, she leaves her patio door open and the local foxes enter and snuggle up on her sofa,i bet she has fleas hopping everywhere.
