mjr88 50
Hi all I have recently noticed that Winchester are advertising a new .22 42 grain subsonic bullet, rather than the old tried and tested 40 grain (my usual brand) I was just wondering if any of you guys have tried the new 42 grain bullets, and if you have, could let me know your opinions. Also, are these new line of 42 grain bullets due to replace the old 40 grainers or is this just a new line being introduced. I am due to stock up now with some more ammo, so any opinions will be greatly alpreciated, John Edited May 22, 2015 by mjr88 Quote Link to post
charlie caller 3,654
I dont use Wins any more as my CZ semi does not like them, but unless they are somehow amazingly more accurate in your rifle, why bother, a rabbit wont notice another 2 grains of bullet weight when you slot it through his head @ 75 yards, all a bit of market hype if you ask me Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
A picked up a box of 50 the other week, more out of interest than anything else. I haven't tried them as yet, but hopefully if the rain holds off this afternoon I will be able to give them a bash. Like CC said though, I can't imagine that those extra 2 grains are going to make much difference. I'll let you know as soon as I have some info ........ good or bad. Quote Link to post

mad4it 694
ive used it and i am going to stick to the normal 40 grain bullets as said rabbits cant tell that an extra 2 grains have hit them between the eyes Quote Link to post
SportingShooter 0
I have a 500 slab of them yet to be shot, I'm a little anxious because recently the Winchester's that I had already have been sticking in the chamber with what looks to be rubbing marks on the end nearest the rim, I've scrubbed the chamber spotlessly clean and the extractor but they still stick, I hope the newer ones are more uniform... Is that with a CZ? Mine is doing that with Eleys. Quote Link to post

charlie caller 3,654
Hence why my CZ 511 semi wont cycle them very well, with Eley it cycles perfectly, and is very accurate. Quote Link to post
Tremo 138
I gave them a side by side comparison yesterday out of my 1417. Visually: I was quite surprised. The head of the 42 grainer is definitely bigger. Hard to believe eh, that 2 grain difference can be so noticeable? Performance: Personally I could not tell an difference between the two. Nothing significant in POI at my range (65 yards). No enhanced punch down range either. All in all, nothing to write home about. Edited May 24, 2015 by Tremo Quote Link to post
Alsone 789
Now the discussion has happened unadulterated, this was the video of testing I came across of what may be an earlier version - 40 gr vs 42gr into ballistic gels. Personally, when differences are slight, I think the best cartridge is not the one on paper but the one you have the most faith in. Quote Link to post
