Yokel Matt 918
Quite a few of the lads I work with really don't have a clue, or much care, about much more than football, chasing skirt or getting pissed up. I've got no qualms discussing my hobbies (or sadly defending them as is often the case) and often get puzzled looks or raised eyebrows, not that I particularly care but at the end of the day its all about education so I thought i'd fly the flag show a couple of them what its all about. After explaining what 'appropriate' clothing was it was funny to see one of them turn up in football shorts, some black waterproof trousers and some bright blue trainers which were 'waterproof'. The other was marginally better so I raided my store and kitted them up in some spare stuff I had which would have to do. I'd had conjunctivitis for best part of a week in both eyes and Monday was the first day I hadn't had to prise my eyes open in the morning and rub the gunk out so phoned a farmer to see what was going on. Id had this place for years and knew there was a buck there but its suck a small plot and success is very much dictated by cattle and silage and the news was good. One the way there I told them the do's and don'ts and was happy to see they were both excited but also taking it seriously. Picking the usual route around the farm so we could glass down at some lower fields the lads were eagerly pointing out rabbits and 'deer'... which turned out to be Hares in the long grass... but at least they were tuning in. As hoped we spotted roe from the top field down on the silage fields below and began the stalk into it. The wind was pretty brisk and of the two approach options one had a better chance of intercepting the buck on a boundary march if he was on the move so we went with that and crept slowly up the hedgerow. 100 yards up a movement caught my eye in the high grass and cow-slip, antlers, and through the bins I could see them moving towards. The lads bunched up to me and I waited on the sticks for a shot to present itself. At 40 meters and in plain sight of the watchers I dropped him with a shot into the boiler room through some light foliage. Piece of piss this stalking lark hey! I pointed out the different organs and lymph nodes during the inspection and then once we got back to my larder how to dress it for the chiller and then we were done. Rabid 1,936
Good man, even if they never take it up, it shows that its a lot more about enjoying the country, uses your senses, and the food chain, plus a million other points. I don't encourage townies out normally cos they a pain in the arse usually, but someone with more patience than me needs to do it ! Quote Link to post

Yokel Matt 918
FairPlay to them they paid attention and really got into the spirit of it, even took turns carrying it back in the roesack. If I thought they'd be too much of a liability I wouldn't have bothered as I can imagine you can be really unlucky with some people but I think we all found a bit more respect for each other afterwards on this occasion. 2 Quote Link to post
