Get yourself pigs, although if I were you I'd start off with 2 and see how they get on first - and to see if you can work it. bird 9,857 Posted May 21, 2015 Report Share Posted May 21, 2015 look on the 2 acres as a base camp and launch pad to explore all the surrounding acreage I could but it's about 15 yards from my gates I am surrounded by the most amazing landscape, but do have to be a little careful as most of it is owned by the conservation charities. However by being my usual charming self, the land that belongs to farmers, or is rented by them I have free access to in return for them having help with the cattle. I now know the places to mooch about and know i won't meet another soul...... get some fallow and rabbits in it , both breed well , then you got some quarry to go at, and legal reason to be there lol Quote Link to post Share on other sites

(lots of alder but in drier spots some other low value deciduous), a stream runs through it in summertime, but come winter its wet. The stream feeds my lake, the lake was dug in the early 60's, the outlet is too high, hence the wet woodland. My best long term plan is to drain the lake and extend it into the woods, this is one of the reasons I bought the woods. Plenty of roe around and the wild boar love it, especially summer as elsewhere its dry, the woods hold plenty of humidity. Alder burns quit quick compared to oak and chesnut ive found, so its good for autumn and spring in the woodburner. Goes a nice colour when you cut it, bright orange, used some as steaks/posts in the lake to build a peg, bloody rooted itself! Quote Link to post Share on other sites

I'm going in there at the weekend with the scythe and see if I can't make some tracks through for easier investigation... I think pigs are going to be the way to go, and a fella i know up the road has a litter of Iron Age piglets readyto go in a few weeks, hurrah!
