walshie 2,804
Prince Charles met Gerry Adams. What was that all about? I certainly wouldn't want to meet a terrorist, let alone one who probably had a part in killing my uncle. And why would Adams want to shake hands with the symbol of everything he despises so much? I hate all this namby-pamby live and let live we see nowadays. http://news.sky.com/story/1486949/prince-charles-shakes-hands-with-gerry-adams
Born Hunter 17,798
I don't think there is anything soft about it at all personally. Emotion and vengeance was put aside for the sake of the nation. Some things are greater than oneself. As heir to the throne, he knows that. Jmo but he did what he had to, his duty. I would hunt every last threat to British security to their graves but it's naive to think that doing deals for the sake of peace isn't what sometimes has to be done. The greater good... What he did was the best course of action for our nations. Vengeance and emotion can't be allowed to get in the way of that. The heir to the throne doesn't have that privilege.
mattyg 1,862
I think its a massive step towards reconciliation when they shake hands....... Went a bit over the top by offering Adams a free weekend in Paris, courtesy of duke of Edinburgh though.

walshie 2,804
I understand all this greater good malarkey. What I don't understand is the "peace" this has achieved. For peace, surely you need to have war in the first place. A few nailbombs here and there isn't a war. His promise not to order any more cowardly attacks on shoppers and people who can't defend themselves in return for a good job, decent salary, immunity from prosecution and audiences with royalty is not a peace process - it's blackmail or extortion however you want to dress it up. I hope it's not the thin end of the wedge and we're going to be "pals" with all manner of scumbags "for the greater good." I hope Charles at least had shit on his fingers when he shook hands. paulus 26
i tell you whats wrong, our security forces have records for every action they did, the IRA don't, why should our lads be held to account when theirs never will. sorry but i could not just forgive and forget, perhaps the next generation can, bigger picture and all that..............
