Phil Lloyd 10,738
Whether it is a legal stipulation or not,...it is in a trappers interest to keep his arse safe,..so it is always far better to go that extra mile and show due diligence....I started off using the fabulously humane, Kania 2000 with a natural tunnel,..constructed on site,..and it was a cracking good set,.but, it pays to go with the flow nowadays,.. Best to place a tunnel in front of the striking bar lads,...you know it makes sense... 3 Quote Link to post
shropshire mole 190
I do use a tunnel with the kanias, does not seem to effect catch rate, shows due diligence, customers like to know non targets can not be caught, and I sleep easier at night Trapped 10 squirrels 4 in kanias and 6 in tunnels with fenns Edited May 22, 2015 by shropshire mole 1 Quote Link to post
J Darcy 5,871
I find a dose of peanut butter really draws them in. They simply cannot resist! Quote Link to post
Mr Muddy 141
Haven’t tried the Kania, but think I’ve already got a favourite trap for squirrels – safe, humane, piece-of-piss to set. Costs as much as half a dozen fenns, but I’m happy. Edited May 23, 2015 by Mr Muddy 4 Quote Link to post

Looks good but probably could not use safely if cats or children about, whereas the kania with factory made cubby can be screwed to wall/tree/fence Quote Link to post
Mr Muddy 141
That's right WCS. I think you can buy plastic caps with smaller holes from the US. The tube has got holes drilled near the ends to screw it to a fence/anchor it to the ground. I just push a steel rod (mole marker from KG) through both holes which halves the size of the opening - there's a 3rd hole you can still use for screws/anchors (or drill more) - other than that I just use sticks, rocks, the sort of natural stuff I like using anyway. I've heard nothing but good things about kanias; but there's only so much expensive kit I can buy - another time maybe. Quote Link to post

The tube is alot smaller than it looks. I've been using them for a while and I've had trail cams set on them too, and I've not seen a non-target ever try to get in. I think the only NT that could get in there would be a hedgehog, but if the trap is set in the daylight or off the floor then that isn't going to happen IMO. They're a top class trap...It's worth getting one to have a play about with... 2 Quote Link to post
shropshire mole 190
Yes can see now they are not as wide as the muddy pic looked. Will get one and see. My work generally seems to be going away from the poison route more and more and trapping is becoming more frequent. Edited May 23, 2015 by shropshire mole 1 Quote Link to post
BRY 79
I bought 2 ws traps used them 3 times in lofts for squirrels, not a single catch with them on any of the jobs. I use kanias and fenns in lofts but the fenns seem to be a higher catch rate this past year . Quote Link to post

myersbg 1,385
Brilliant traps, both the WCS tube and the Kania,i had a tube nicked once, [felt gutted], the tubes are great on the mink, i made a box to go with the tubes for the squirrels which makes them good for prebaiting. Quote Link to post
Mr Muddy 141
My work generally seems to be going away from the poison route more and more and trapping is becoming more frequent. Good luck with that, I’ve heard a couple of people say the same thing recently. Tell you what I reckon though; the people who now want to do more trapping for ecological or job satisfaction reasons are soon going to have their ranks swelled by a lot of cowboy pesties who don’t have or won’t take the qualification they’ll need to buy 2nd gen anticoagulants next year. Just my personal prediction you understand, but I think trapping is about to become a massively overbooked profession. Quote Link to post
