How do chaps, had a trip down memory lane yesterday. back in 1972 when I was ten one Saturday I was dragged around town with my mum and sisters shopping, I hated it (nothing has changed) in and out of shops we went, the last one I stayed outside next to it was a Sports/Fishing Tackle shop in the window was a Milbro catapult, this to me was the ultimate a proper cattie, up and till then I'd made all my own from lolly sticks and hair band to natural forks, loads of different ones, this one was my dream one, I decide I was going to have it, after 3 months of doing work around the house and garden for my mum & dad, reluctantly running errands for my elder sisters I'd save enough money to bye it. Saturday came and to my mum's surprise I asked if I could go shopping with her, the bus ride seemed to take forever, once there in and out of shops till finally the last one, in they went, I quickly nipped next door to claim my prize, the old boy behind the counter said what can I do for you laddy, I want to bye the catapult, he slowly tottered off to get it, I was thinking hurry up hurry up my mum might come in, knowing for well she would have said no to me having it, possibly due to my sisters moaning about me using them as targets. It happened the door bell rang and there they where and she said NO you are not having that. With head held low and my dream shattered we left the shop, my sisters laughing I think with relief it would of hurt. Thinking about it now it was probably for the best.

Jumping forward in time till yesterday I called in on a mate of mine, sitting in his shed drinking tea and chewing the fat about motorbikes and putting the world to rights the conversation turned to catapults and how I've got back into making them, he said that he still had his ones from when he was a nipper (same age as me) after rummaging through some old boxes he handed me the black one 'Silver Shot' 1970's he then pasted me his favorite the Milbro, said it had cost him many a cuff round the ear from his dad and the neighbors, something about green houses and glass, say no more. The memories came flooding back it was great to actually hold one for the first time, I said clean them up, loads of different elastic set ups today compared to when we where nippers we can have some fun. Great mate that he is said no you have them, your bloody Denis the Menace enjoy. Well that's what I'm going to do, once done I'll get him round and fun we shall have.

Dreams can come true, even after 44 years

Cheers Chisler
