HPR 1,161
All depends on how big they are there normally 60 quid each pup some arnt dangerous some are so I'd get them checked out for peace of mind 1 Quote Link to post

Rabbit Hunter 6,613
My mate got brother and sister littermates a few months ago, the bitch had a hernia so he got it fixed pretty cheaply, however it returned and he had her back to the vets and he's been given an £1100 bill... Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,521
My mate had a dog (ernie) live to a good age with no problems and he had an umbilical hernia, hence the name 1 Quote Link to post
MAIN MAN 277
better done when the pup has grown a bit due to the gut lining being to thin Quote Link to post
rob284 1,682
They can be left alone as depending on the size they cause no pain to the dog. I know a dog thats 7year old thats had one from a pup. Quote Link to post
Shamo 319
Unless you are keeping them, the Vet will only do something when they are older anyway, so the new owners will be responsible. You are obliged to point it out to them though, as a decent person would. Breeding.........lovely part of the job..yuk! cut the Cords yourself, in the future, will help cut down on Hernias.........the curse of a maiden or rough female. 1 Quote Link to post
Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Trouble can happen in the rough and tumble of play with this .Unless its an exceptional litter i would cull them out but thats me .You do whats right for you mate but take vets advice . Quote Link to post
Sean Hartigan 101
I remember my father taping a copper penny over the odd hernia on a terrier pup, don't know if it worked Quote Link to post
Mosby 355
I've heard of just taping them also. I usually cull them when I see it. Hernias can be connected to heart and lung issues. Quote Link to post
skycat 6,173
You need to make sure that they are real hernias, and not just a bit of fatty tissue that got trapped when the umbilical opening closed up. A true hernia can be depressed, pushed back into the abdominal cavity; a small ball of fatty tissue cannot be pushed back in like that, and these aren't any problem whatsoever. Get a vet to check them out if you are unsure. 1 Quote Link to post
