It's a good topic but like most things with animals they ain't all the same even those of the same kind ,personally running with collars on in forty yrs Neva had a problem with em on cover woodland anywhere for that matters no probs ,but there be thousands a times it's been handy for the collar on to be worn greys whips all ran with collars on when chasing game no probs . Having said that Alsatians and those with experience of both the xs and pure form will tell thee this they're betta with out a lead naturally stay close and are back to and frowsimilar ta collie xs, but how about if one begets one with loads a drive and Cana be hanging about for 2long different approach needed bits a rope lead got em make good muzzle collars and does same job has head collar having said that having five alsation xses of different blends of grey this fourth generation xs been so much harder to master halfs and three quarter types walk in the park ,my hair was grey totallwhite out now lol.has far has strength goes the xs has plenty and are equal to any xs in strength that I have no doubt pound for pound the malls I have little first hand experience of but a few acquaintance keep the xs seem to be more manageable maybe they mature quicker looks that way either ways prefer the collar on em much betta than having to scruff em when needs arise and they can given the right driven animal. Keep at it lads closed means that wee bit more time to educate the dog in life . Atbbunnys.

There was me thinking this was a post about gsd lurchers and its about collars.

Dog looks the part and not taking the piss here but what will the gsd add to the mix in your opinion mate I've never seen one up this way[/quote

For me it was similar to a collie x,but without some of the collie issues, stalking rabbits for example, also mine could switch off in the yard,if given a run out everyday, she wasn't manic, but if she didn't get out for example ,when in season, her recall was iffy, and prey drive intensified.

to be honest mate , it comes down to personal choice mate. all I can say is from owning+ working various xs in 30 years that's from (colliexs, bullxs, bitsxs ,none ped whippet ) and see quite a few of other lads lurchers of different xs, and all have been not bad dogs . I wanted something different to colliexs as I don't get on with there temps that's just me , the bullxs were ok but for me lacked stamina on a long hard night , that's lot of runs and all walking not from a motor , but I liked there mind set they give 100% from start to finish . so I heard of Alsatian xs from other lads , that had them before and liked this type lurcher . from what they had said they were very good deer + fox dogs , and get good bag of rabbits as well with them, and that they were very tough with very good stamina and good pace for big dogs . well my dog 1x gsdx grey Buck fits that bill , he will run all night long good stamina, and his full on in the field with what's in front of him . and bunnys is right there a very powerful type dog, Buck as strong or stronger than any bull x ive ever owned I had 3 of them. they not for every body they don't look like you lurcher of today , but that's great for day stuff , because most famers or keeper in the day think Buck some kind guard dog  , but fook me they would they have a shock when that lamp comes out  . ive got a ss collar , but its only the 1in one lurcher type one, and its great, very strong and 100%water proof .

My alsation switches off to some degree on yard but always in guard mode day or night I would think there would be no point in generation xses if one his not trying to intensifie for the breeds traits. Atb bunnys

I think Ray has a good point some prefer ta stay u out of eyes scrutiny. Alsation xs plenty camouflage and also a think Tomas right ta somes that bitch darn right ugly but saying that she a picture in comparison ta jaz lol but hey on a filthy night where strength and darn right constitution comes to the fore I think like most a well built specimen seems to be able ta handle these situation quite easily.
